i looked up my family crest and everything and started to figure out what my last name meant and where we came from.

apparently hempstead meant pot farm.

"There is little reason to doubt that the first American ancestor was Robert Hempstead, born at Hempstead, England, who in 1645 appears on the records as one of the nine original settlers of New London, Connecticut."

so i got to thinkin what everyones last names meant, and i typed in the first one i saw. morley from the morley banner at the top of the vmax page. and ill be damned we could be cousins!!!!!

morley - word for pot, weed, dope, canabis, hash, etc

so whats your last name mean guys? post em up!!

morgan, never really been able to find out what it means. i have it on my back tho incase i get a few more concusions

Evans is a family name of Welsh origin. This Gaelic name is taken from a word meaning 'swift' , or possibly "Evan is the Welsh form of the Hebrew John, meaning God has been gracious, or God has shown favor".
Mostly (50%)Scottish though, Grandparents (maternal) came from Scotland, clan name of Cameron, from Lochaber, Inverness-shire, Scotland.
"Clan Cameron is a West Highland Scottish clan, with one main branch Lochiel, and numerous cadet branches such as Erracht, Clunes, Glen Nevis, and Fassifern. The Clan Cameron lands are in Lochaber and within their lands is the mountain Ben Nevis which is the highest mountain in the British Isles. The chief of the clan is customarily referred to as simply "Lochiel"".
It seems KJ's clan and clan Cameron have a little history together back in the 14th century, apparently our clans fought for King Robert the Bruce in the Wars of Scottish Independence.

Milburn: Old English Origin. However spelled, the place name is composed of the pre 7th century words "mylem", meaning a mill and "-burna", a stream, hence the mill by the stream. :ummm:

i have the coolest cousin ever. i think he had an affair with someone on my moms side of the family as he came through indiana. and if you check his trail on his ride it goes right through our town lol. we have historical markers of him and everything here in greensburg or at least we did.

John Hunt Morgan (June 1, 1825 – September 4, 1864

Morgan is best known for Morgan's Raid in 1863, when he led 2,460 troops racing past Union lines into Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio in July 1863. This would be the farthest north any uniformed Confederate troops penetrated during the war.

On his return to Kentucky, he became a hemp manufacturer and in 1848, he married Rebecca Gratz Bruce, 18-year-old sister of one of his business partners. Morgan also hired out his slaves and occasionally sold them.

Known as a gambler and womanizer, Morgan was also known for his generosity.

anyways he started off as a real military unit but as he got reinforcements everyone just started pillaging and looting and it was just a big party/raid

but ya one of my great aunts actually made a book for us with all of our relatives on it back into the 1800s. i was shocked someone could even find that information.
