I bought one of these CIPA 93271 Red 4" and installed it over my #2 and #4 cylinders. Hooked it up to one of my running light wires off my tail light. 3 little LEDs have drained my battery to the point it will not start. I have disconnected it and charged my battery. Runs and starts fine now.

My question, where should I hook this little guy up to? Headlight wire that turns off when the start button is pressed? Should I just get a toggle switch and run it off the battery?

I've got exact same lights in orange hooked to my running lights haven't had any problems all summer. You sure you have em hooked up right?

wow u should b able to keep them lights on all day without running down the battery (i would think anyway).

I run 222 led lights and I can leave them on for hours with little to no drain on the battery. You must be shorting something out cause LEDs are known for their very low draw. Now when you run the wire to the battery make sure it's not bare somewhere and touching the frame. I had a couple issues when I first put mine on. My first issue was I put one led strip too close to my pipe and it slightly melted the wire that fed the strip and I had to take it off to find it cause it was just a small section of wire that you couldn't see. Then my only other issue was my ground wire for my reg/rectifier ground wire wasn't making a very good ground but those were the only drainage issues with electric. But honestly check into it, people leave LEDs on at shows for hours on end and most don't have issues. Not that I'm an expert by any means but I just know what I've dealt with and learned from research. Good luck.

OK so the LEDs were installed coincidentally at the moment my battery crapped out. I charged it, and the next day it would not start again. LEDs were not even hooked up. I got it started and went to O'Reillys to have them test it. Bad battery and they didnt have any in stock.

Getting a new battery ordered, but my next question is: Is this switch power in, power out? I'm just gonna hook up a switch for the LEDs.

The switch is whatever you wire to it. Most guys run the + wire to the switch. You could run the - wire to the switch and it would still work, unless you somehow, accidentally grounded the lights to the frame. Then they would be on all the time since the circuit would never open even with the switch in the off position.

Get you a remote control switch to run your LED's. Install the remote unit. Pocket the remote, and no toggle switch to ever worry about. Cheap and easy to do.
