I have a Python shift light. I wash my bike and I think I must have got the shift light wet. At first it would light up randomly then the next day (hoping it would dry out) I checked it and now I get nothing. My question is has anyone had this issue before? Can I save it? Or should I plan on buying another one? Thanks.

I'm not sure which shift light it is that Python sells (Tom doesn't have one for sale ATM) but maybe a hairdryer or letting it sit in a container of dry rice would help draw out any residual moisture?

Before doing that, I would get a can of electrical contact cleaner and just douse the light both inside and out. Try to get all of the circuit boards and in all of the "nooks and crannies". The contact cleaner will dissolve or wash away any electrically conductive foreign material in the electronics. Allow the light to dry in the sun for a couple of hours and you should be good to go.

This worked for me a couple of years ago when I dropped my brand new cell phone in the toilet just after taking a leak. (No I was not talking and pissing at the same time, the F@#kin' belt clip popped open and my new Moto went for a swim):bang head:

I have the Harlen shift light and I had to send it back because mine did the same thing. It got moisture in it and it rusted, I tried to clean it but no luck. He said he would fix it or send me a new one, I asked to have the water proof one this time. Harlen has great customer service also.

I have the Python one also, and I've noticed the same thing. If I get caught in a downpour, after a while the light will flash out it's setting (like it does when you turn the key on) and then it doesn't work anymore, when you cycle the key, nothing. Washing it usually causes it to not work for a while also

It's always fine again the next day, so I don't worry too much about it. I have a clear pipe end cap slipped over the LED's, but the back end with the dials is still open. I suppose if you want to forego adjusting it again you could just fill the whole recess with silicone or something, but I'n not hitting shift-light RPM's in rainy weather anyway.
