Left-side crankcase cover gasket

When you remove the left-side crankcase cover so that you can turn the engine over by hand to check valve clearance does the cover gasket "survive" or does it generally need replacement at the same time?

I'm guessing your talking about the thick rubber gasket under the stator cover?

If so, it can be reused.

However, I had issues with mine. After it was subjected to oil, the rubber expanded and the gasket would no longer sit flat. I purchased a new one.

Here you can see the old gasket under the new one.
