Not me, but one of the truck drivers hauling blacktop for us. Were milling and paving the thruway (90) between dunkirk and westfield ( for you local guys). Were averaging around 2 and a half miles a day, so there's quite a push for the black top and milling trucks to hurry. This morning one of the blacktop guys dumped his material and then cleaned his box at the end of our work zone. In his rush he forgot to put his box down. The nearest bridge was only a few hundred yards up. He hit the bridge and tore the box right off the truck. The box went to the left and tore the last ten feet of a tractor trailer box off, and then landed on the left shoulder of the road. The dump truck ended up on the right shoulder. There was a ton of what if's going on. If that box would have hit a car, motorcycle or even the cab of a tractor trailer, it would have immediately crushed what it hit. For as bad as what happened today, it could have been a hundred times worse. The driver of the truck had minor injuries.

Holy ****!! That's one that makes you say....'Man, I would have like to have seen THAT one!!'

Glad no-one was hurt....the white hard hats will climbing all over that overpass bridge....you can bet on that!

PS Was he an independant trucker?

Yea, I had to extend the work zone for the bridge inspectors. He hit the concrete facia, but didn't hit the beams. took a chunk of concrete off but he didn't hurt the rest of the bridge. I have a pic on my cell phone but I don't know how to put it on here. He was a hired truck, from a company with a lot of trucks. Something like that could put a little guy right out of business.

A few years ago a guy was hauling a monster backhoe down the Northway I-87, had it boomed to high and slammed into the first overpass south of Plattsburgh, NY....chunks of crete came down and bounced off a car....big mess, no injuries tho.

Yeah, just what I was thinking....probly put one little guy out of a job tho I'm betting!!

I see the dump truck drivers locally doing the same thing as everyone-else, driving-along talking on the cellphone. The inspection of his cellphone use may prove illuminating.

One of my friends owned a crane company w/his father. They had been in-business for many years, but when the construction in FL went belly-up years-ago, they sold-off a lot of their equipment, scaling-back. One of their drivers fell-asleep on the interstate, in a Kenworth dumptruck, and rolled it. It looked like someone shaved a huge diagonal chunk off the truck where it was crushed flat on the right front side. I saw it at the wrecking yard after they brought it in. If it had been the opposite side, they would have had to cut-apart the cab to remove the driver's body. He lived. That made my friend fold the company but he's roadway and underground utilities supervisor for one of the largest cities in the Ft. Lauderdale FL area. Coincidentally, he has a CBX and a vintage CB1100F that is perfect. I once ran a rescue call on his Camaro after his girlfriend (now wife) totaled the car, no one seriously-injured, thank god.

The bigger they are the harder they fall/crash/burn - lucky nobody was hurt

and, this is how you cut up an overpass

Seen a lot of mishaps over the years in my job in the trucking industry. As a Regional Ops Manager, part of my job is accident recovery for my territory and all I can say is that it's no fun getting these messes cleaned up.
