Had my max since 95. I was only going to touch up motor & frame (in frame). Six months & lots of $$$ later... here she is with all new paint, seals, kits, jets, hoses, well you get the idea. Redesigned the seat (cut out two inches of foam, added thin gel pad. Leather & ostrich.) I ran over my manifold covers. How do you like those? I cut up an old set of HD pipes. Have never done anything to motor but the regular maint. Feels like a new bike. People stop and admire it like they did 15 years ago. Love It!

Very nice, creative covers. It looks like new..... Do those pipes work for you?:ummm:

I got the Cobras about ten years ago...Love Em! I did not read any of the paper work when I got them, so I put the center stand in. Now I have been told That center stand can not be used w/ Cobras. They are still on working perfect.

you did the shaving/shaping and re-upholsterying yourself?
I took it to a guy I work with & we used some leftovers he had. He cut 2 inches out w/ a bread cutting knife. We put a curved seam on front to give a saddle effect plus it fits a lot better. added seams to mid section instead of just wrapping it like OEM & more ostrich on back section. I think it came out Bad Ass.

Great lookin' bike. Love the color.
I am really happy w/ the color. It is the color that came with the black ghost flames w/o the flames. It is darker & deeper looking than the OEM red that came on my 89. I was going to buy new emblems so i would not have to trim double-back tape. Yamaha is too proud of these plastic things. Side cover emblems - $30 ea., air box emblems - $20 ea., Yamaha Sticker on back fender $11. Forget about it. They should give $11 to advertise for them!
