Hey All,

I wonder if I could get a favor from someone running OEM wheels and stock tire sizes?

The next time you go out for a ride, would you take note of the RPMs at 60mph (indicated), and also at 70mph, and post them up for me?

Just curious about this since I don't have OEM wheels or stock tire sizes mounted up.

Thanks,
John

If memory serves...........60mph is right at 4k rpms, while 80 would be really close to 5k rpms.....since you are asking for ballpark #'s. Not sure about 70mph.

I wanted to know this also.
I was also curious as to how my new Shinko 230 Tourmaster 120/90-18 reacts on the tach's reading vs GPS speed, and Engine RPM at that speed.

I'll post up after next ride..

120/90/18 front 170/80/15 rear---50mph=3200rpm 60mph=4000rpm
70mph=4400rpm
75mph=4800rpm
80mph=5000rpm

I have the Shinko 120 up front and saw 2-3 mph faster on the speedo compared to the gps.

Thanks everyone for the replies.

I had a chance today to take the bike out and write down the #'s.

MPH indicated / RPMs
50 / 3000
60 / 3650
70 / 4150
80 / 5000

These #'s are with 17" Dymag wheels with a 120/70-17 and 180/55-17 mounted on them.

In the last couple of weeks I have been on a couple of short rides with 2 different friends (1 on a Yamaha Tenere and 1 on a VTX1800) and I would put them in the lead. When they reached 60MPH indicated on their speedo they would hold their hand up so I could check my speedo readout. Both times I was traveling 60 indicated when they were.

This bike (2006) just feels different than my last Vmax (2003 that burned up in a fire last year) which I owned for 12 yrs.

Doing 60MPH on this bike with these wheels feels like I'm going about 40. 80MPH feels closer to 55.

When I mounted the 17" Dymags I also installed a speedo drive gear from a YZF600R that was suggested to me on the forum here from another thread. So, I guess it looks like that drive unit puts the speedo exactly where it needs to be for a 17" wheel.

Thanks again everyone,
John
