Finally got me a scout. She isn't perfect but what is?

Drove it home from Lebanon tn to Findlay Illinois not so much as a hiccup. Ran 70mph down the interstate the whole way home and figured my mileage at 17mpg. I believe it has had the rag joint replaced with u-joint setup but the steering is still a little looser than im used to, but it dosnt wander on the road whatsoever. Real easy to keep a straight line. I was suprised at how nice it rides. Rides smoother than my 4x4 chevy s10 i used to own.

This thing has no problem whatsoever getting to speed, keeping it, chugging hills, it will probably do every bit of whatever speed the setup is capable of but ive only had it to 80 and thats only because i wasnt paying attention and looked down and didnt realize i was going that fast.

First thing i did was overfill it and smelled gas for the first few hours and gave myself a bad headache

I dont know a whole awful lot about the truck other than:

its a 76 traveler with a terra top, scout 2 tailgate and ss grille. 304 with 4 speed (non granny 1st) and 3.54 gears

i believe it has 146k miles. Owner originally said 46 but "wasnt sure" maybe 346 for all i know

He said it has pertronix unit with a red coil which im unsure if thats stock or not, it has a new ,aster cylinder, starter, battery, alternator, hoses, belts, wires, all new exhaust, new front leafs and came with some off brand street tires but the tread are brand new. You can barely hear it running, its super quiet.

Floor pans, rockers, quarters, bed floor have been replaced.

Only problems i can think of:

Needs tank dropped and new sending unit which ill be doing in near future.

Oil pressure gauge acts funny. Most the time it starts off pegged to the max then when it warms up it stays at 3/4, sometimes starts at 3/4 cold then stays between half and 3/4 warm. Dosnt move much if any with rev's

Smokes for about 10 seconds everytime you start it. Just the valve seals and wont hurt it right?

Body isnt as straight as id like it to be, the hood sticks up high in a spot on the drivers side, lines arent perfect and it has a couple dents ill need to fix. The grill is cracked in a few spots, homemade bumpers welded to the frame, i think the body mounts are homemade too. It has one of those 15 foot paint jobs that likes to blow off when you wash it. Also has some DIY bedliner on the interior and bed that i will probably grind off and have it linex'd

Overall im very happy with this truck so far. 2 petal pumps cold and it fires up in about 2 seconds. Hot it starts even faster. Runs super strong and hasnt given me any trouble... yet.

The reason its on trailer in pic is because these are pics the previous owner sent me. My camera took a crap on me and wont focus. Ill try to get pics of it buried in the mud to the doors soon if my friend still has them on his cell

That's a sweet Scout.....

With all the salt around here in the winter vehicles rust out in 5 years or less:damn angry:

You would be hard pressed to find anything like that around here.....

Great find:eusa_dance:

Damn nice Project. I have always loved the Scout..My dad's friend had one, always used it as a hunting ride. Brings back memories. Keeps us updates on the progress, pictures, stories, sound clips...

Truck is looking really nice! :punk: Any idea of what you want to do for paint?

Im not sure i was thinking flat gunmetal metalic grey with black mirrors, wheels, etc. Or possibly just repainting it the same color only flatter with black as well. The tan has kind of grown on me

I like what you did to it so far. I would say put your money in the go first and in the show after.

Looks like a fun offroader.

Mike

Here she is all buttoned back up. Washed the blue stuff off the tires and about shit at how good they look now. Got the stainless braided extended lines on and got all new hard lines installed. No leaks thus far and it was my first time having to do hard lines. Im proud of myself hehehe

Badass! aint seen one of them in years. I think my dad had one back in the day. May have been a Jeep Scrambler.... Looks good though mang! Nice work.

It's coming together NICE!

To much black and the car will lose its lines. If you mix it up a bit it'll look awesome.

How about a black cab, windshield surround Front grill and both bumpers along with blacked out indicator frames with the rest tan? I'd like to see that Photo shopped on it.

pin stripping might look weird, but i feel like it needs something on the side... maybe a massive VMax decal? hahah

Im not sure about the paint either. If i had some photoshop skills thatd be sweet. Im hoping before the end of summer to have some headers, better carb, larger diameter exhaust with nothing but cherry bombs on it. Then tear it down and paint it this fall/winter. Id like to take the body completely off the frame and have the underside of it linexed as well as the inside of the tub. Right now it has some roll on rhinoliner on the inside of the tub which dosnt look too bad at all but it needs redoing

Make sure they're long tube headers and also make sure you have a cross over of some type in it. Makes it sound SO much better (less tractor like) and increases power. An X cross over is best but a straight H style will work too. I'm not a cherry bomb kind of guy but to each his own.

Had a 74 Scout II 304 auto from 78 to about 88.
Probably the toughest thing I ever owned...pushed a 8' plow every winter.
That truck is one of my favourites from those years, I see so few.
Not sure if they were available in Canada?
My eyes are green...
