So, we must have had a power surge at my house last week. Nearly every surge protector in the house went up in a poof of smoke, saving all of my electronics. I guess they did their job, but stunk up the house awfully bad. All of my household electronics were spared, but in the shop, I had my nice, new battery charger plugged directly into the outlet and it no longer works. Also, my Makita cordless drill charger is out of commission.
I took it apart and found it surprisingly easy to troubleshoot. It seems that there is a 250V, 4A, time-delay fuse soldered to the PCB that has blown. I haven't checked the Makita charger yet, but I'm sure it will be the same type of deal.
I was just wondering if anyone here knows of a good place to buy these things?
I was also considering replacing it with a glass-type fuse (T4A slow-blow) and a panel-mount holder so it is accessible from the outside in case it ever happens again. Any one know if this will work?
Here's a poor pic, but the fuse is circled in Blue.
