New guy, first vmax, turn signal issue

I just picked up my first vmax (94, yellow, and awesome)!

The left rear turn signal was broken and there were about 6 sets of new turn signal packages in one of the boxes of parts that came with the bike. They are K&S 25-8300 or something like that. They mount and work, but the stem/bolt that passes through bracket is too long and scrapes against the fender so I can't get fender reattached correctly. Any way of cutting these shorter without cutting the wires and still being able to thread the inside nut onto the bolt?

I don't own a set of those signals but, I'm sure it can be done.

Take the lens off and see what it takes to pull the wires out.

If that seems nearly impossible, shield the wires and cut carefully. I'm sure I could find some old steel fuel line, or brake line or a piece of copper refrigeration tubing laying around my house or at work that could be used to protect the wire while I cut through the stem.

You can always simply add some washers to the stem.. They may stick out from the bike a touch more, but that just makes you that much more visible. Not a bad trade off IMHO..

Took the turn signal to True Value hardware store and found the perfect steel spacers! looks like they came that way from the factory.... worked perfect. All the turn signals are now installed.

Those are great looking signals. I've got some Chinese fake carbon fiber units on my bike. Those would be a good upgrade. I didn't see a price on them. How much were they?

We sell many similar signals (not that specific brand but the same thing). I always cut down the rear stems for my customers. It can be done with the wiring in place by carefully cutting the perimeter part way through with a dremil or dotco and then just breaking it off in a vice. The wiring comes out relatively easy by removing the lens (2 screws) and one screw holding the socket. You'll have to cut off any bullet connectors and then just pull it all out.

I offer a number of finishes and lens colors. I can also prep them for dual filament (front) or single (rear). I think I even have some red bulbs around here to use dual filament rears with clear len's.
