There was a topic about this quite recently, from memory it is 5.75 inch LED headlight that was suggested, a search on eBay for replacement HD headlight.

I am looking for doing the exact same...
I bought a 5.75in led headlight, and I am trying to figure out a way to fit it in the original bezel.

I am pretty sure all I need is the ring that has the supports of the glass lamp, but there is no way to do so without ruining the OEM lamp.
Most likely I will find an ebay OEM and experiment with it.

You can buy a harley bezel and a 5.75 led headlight and cut the back out and it will bolt right on the vmax. There is a member on here that told me step by step directions it was very simple and looks oem. I wish I could remember his handle name but with some searching you could find it. He's very helpful and will give you step by step also.

Cut the back out for the light and wiring to fit. You'll see it's pretty easy and looks professional when done

I see what you mean...

Nice suggestion....
I believe that it will also need a hole big enough to fit the rubber ring to fit it in to the upper holder...

Nice tip, I rather experiment with a generic part.

I'll share the result when parts arrive

Thanks!

Hey Josh,
Yea your right, thats the bucket, here's a pic of that bucket from behind after I made the cut-out for the wiring, lower support attached.
I then split some 3/16"hose and pressed it on the metal edges to protect the wiring, all done.

Man I couldn't remember your name to tell the guy to talk to you. Yes yours looks great thats why I was wanting him to talk to you instead of me cause I only knew half the details.

That is a great picture of what I was kind of imagining...

Thanks!

Took me a while to get this job started, but at last it's done!

Some of you might think it was unnecesary and I personally think there were easier ways to do it, but I was looking to install the LED headlight in the original mounts, so this is what I've done:

I wannted the option to quickly swap the headlight with the OEM, so I did't want to install any after market brackets or anything like that. My approach unfortunately required to ruin the original headlight, so I was fortunate enough to find in ebay a headlight assembly that was even in better shape than mine.

In order to adapt the original bracket I tore apart the headlight, it consists in the glass, the outer ring and the reflector. The reflector must be trimmed in order to obtain just the ring with the brackets. Unfortunately the easier way is to break the glass. This is the result:

It took a lot of patience, but the inner ring must fit the led housing from the rear. The idea is to sandwich together the assembly similar to the original:

Using contact glue and a few pressure pliers, bonded the assembly together:

Once the glue is cured, it is ready to be mounted on the outer ring, with the adjustment screws working perfectly:

The final assembly is done as the original:

Happy with the result, but honestly took a lot of effort.
There are a few things I would have done differently during the trimming and bonding process, but the result was succesful

Regards!

So, if that light goes, do you have to do that entire procedure all over again? Is that glue able to come apart to replace the bulb?

I'm sure he will but that led should last yrs so if it's something you gotta do again In the next 10yrs its worth it cause the light is 100 times brighter then the oem light is.

To take it all apart will definitely be a pain to change the LED headlight, but as Josh mentioned, these LEDs last for ever (tipically).
Worst case scenario, that's why I left a spare OEM assembly and that will be a quick swap.

Yes its fair to say that light will last 10yrs or better so you definitely can't go wrong with what you did buddy nice job
