New Member - 2002 Vmax

Greetings,

I am the original owner of a 2002, fully stock Vmax. I stupidly let it sit five years. Last year I put on new tires, replaced all fluids, drained gas and replaced the battery. I got it running but definitely need some carburetor attention.

My goal is to get my bike back on the road by the fall. I miss her. I'm looking to the folks on the forum for their experience and expertise.

In the meantime, I'm riding my 2023 Triumph Bonneville T120.

Sounds like you should have no problem with completing the remaining maintenance much earlier than fall?

One of the quickest ways to get familiar with your carburetors is to use the search function, in the upper-right corner. You can spend hours digesting the information. I suggest printing out pages you find to be of value.

The first 64 pages are yearly updates, one year at a time. Not all years are covered for that. Some annual changes had more significant changes than others, like the 1985-'89 bikes having two ignition pick-up coils. The 1990-'07 bikes had only one, and the later/newer ignition module became a digital ignition.

I'll be doing a similar thing soon. I would also say double check your tank for bad rust and maybe use evaporust or something if it is.
On an older bike I had, I learned there's no feeling like a freshly installed pilot jet clogging immediately
