Hi All

If anyone has any ideas to get my 89 Maxy firing again, they would be much appreciated.

It has been starting OK all winter just when I need it on the road there is no spark, but all the other electrics are working fine.

It stoppedd running a month back I thought it was out of petrol filled it up, charged the battery and nothing. Fuses are sound and there are no obvious faults.

I have an idea it may be the regulator, but not sure, anybody had similar
problem.

Many Thanks in advance

Paul

I assume that You already checked the fuses.
Bike cranks and wont fire or wont crank at all?

If cranks and no spark then:

Theres a very simple way to check the Starting Circut Cut Off System which is the couse of no spark in 90% of cases.
Propably sidestand or clutch switch problem. By bypassing the one wire form TCI You can diagnose that the Starting Circut is the problem.
Without GND connection on that B/W wire TCI will only spark once and no more.

You need to bypass the B/W wire form the TCI box directly to the ground and see if that helps.
Simply fool the TCI.

Also grab the multimeter and check that is there +12V on the R/W wire.
That way you will diagnose the ingnition system suply.

If no change then most defo Your TCI is toasted which is very often with OLD type TCI's.

Or it might be the small four wire starting circuit relay that is located under the left scoop and directly in front of the CDI box. If you got a local Vmax buddy to switch em out, it is easy to do and takes about twenty minutes. Hope you figure it out.
