My bike, which hasn't been getting a lot of miles lately, although I start it at least once a week, is pissed off at me I guess since I ride/wheelie the XR650L to work all the time now....

Anyway, it developed a very severe off-idle to about 1800rpm hiccup, then takes off and runs perfect past that....

After playing with the idle screws some, and also checking that the slides weren't sticking, and that holes hadn't developed in the rubbers....

I tore them down as completely as is possible while on the bike which would be the slides, PAJ 1 & 2 and gave them a good "berryman b12" bath, let them soak for a while and then blew them out in every direction possible through every available orrifice, using compressed air,

It improved it about 90% but it still has a slight "stumble and GO" just right off-idle that is driving me nuts,

I think I should go ahead and do a full tear down, but is there something else to look at first that might be a simple something I'm missing,

In the past I've been NO carb expert, and usually just tear 'em down and clean 'em, figuring if they were fine before and nothings been messed with that they simply need cleaning to fix what's ailling without really knowing what exactly I fixed.....

I't seems to me this has to be a pilot circuit problem but not sure.....but would like to avoid pulling them if possible....

Thanks,

Rusty

I considered igniton issues, but the symptoms I had were about the same evey time, and after the first cleaning they got better......so I've been focused on the carbs.....

I'll pull the plugs anyway and go ahead and ohm out the wires and coils while I'm at it..

Thanks,

Rusty

Drain a float bowl and see how the fuel looks. Peashooter might help too. If it still does it, try a sync job. If still hesitates then PFJ may be plugged.

That B12 and other heavy doses of carb type cleaner are hard on the rubber parts so may want to take a peek in the bowls anyway. Check rubber caps. Remove PFJ's from the jet block and make sure it doesn't hold a vacuum. I use my lips. :)

Just goes to show. Gearheads are weaned with carbs not a bottle full of formula. :biglaugh::rocket bike:
