i'm going to replace my r/r on the max this weekend if i get it and was going to do as suggested and run the hot directly to the battery just as i did the ground for the r/r last year.my question is is it certain that this will have no long term ill effects on the bike at all?when it is done this way are we bypassing anything important?just wondering

You can run directly to the battery but make sure it's fused.

It already more or less runs directly to the battery. not sure I would worry about that myself.

I agree with Sean. If you look at the orignal set up where it enters in the crimp it goes directly back to the battery. The main 30 amp fuse that goes to the rest of the system will protect you just fine. I have been running my this way for 2 years now and no ill effect at all.

:punk:thanks guys,i just put it on the bike tonight and it seems to have fixed the hesitation and the wanting to die on me when stopped when warmed up.right now its still pluged in but i plan on running the hot direct asap.after riding it tonight im starting to think that r/r i had was possibly slowly going bad the entire time ive owned the bike(2yrs.)ts never seemed to run this well and smooth.looks like i'll be able to make my trip to the Dragon next week (purchased it from python A+++)

Damn it , I have to ask ...What is R/R ? My friends Vmax is stalling on him in slow hot traffic.

R/R is the voltage Regulator/Rectifier. It convert up to about 50VAC from the stator to 12-14VDC to charge the battery. Located behind the LH passenger footpeg.
