Looking to have a rear fender, front fender, front fender fork brace, and the faux tank painted. They quoted me about $450 + tax from my local collision max.

No big damage but the occasional chip / small scratch. I thought that price seemed pretty high but I could be wrong. ( was hoping to get it around $300 )

What do you guys think? If you're in the south jersey area and have a recommended body shop as well let me know. I'd rather give my money to a local business than some crazy corporate company.

That doesn't sound like a bad price when you are including the cost of materials. I don't think you'll find decent work much-cheaper than that, that you would be happy-with.

+1

Average labor rate for body work in NJ is $70+ per hour. A real good shop could be quite a bit higher. Paint has gotten very expensive. So if you figure the hours needed to do a professional job + the cost of paint, $450 is not unreasonable.

Always seems like a lot because there is not much surface to paint on a VMax.

If you're on a budget you might consider wrapping it yourself.... fairly inexpensive and can look really good.

I've seen Kyle advertise freshly painted body sets on exchange for very similar pricing.

His work appears to be top notch. Not sure what your local body shop turns out or what your expectations are.

Not a bad price at all that is what I normally charge for a single color job. Good paint is not cheap . It would cost a bit more to have me do it after shipping the upside is I can do it on an exchange basis and you would not have to have your bike down. Only place I can think of to get it done cheaper is like an econ bake but beware you get what you pay for .

Just a few jobs I have done lately

$450 is almost a steal. I painted my goldwing for not much less and did it myself. Paint is crazy stupid expensive. Since the great oil demand about a decade ago everything petroleum based went sky rocketing. Sometimes we would charge less if a customer wanted a paint we had left over so they wouldn't have to pay for the paint since we already had it on the shelf providing there was enough to do the job to start with. Labor, and materials pretty much. Hours worth of sanding, priming sanding, sealer depending on the primer used, base, clear, wet sanding (cuts out the orange peel) gives a nice clean smooth look, and then buffing, and a l little polish, to a nice mirrored, wet look, and that's about it lol.

Wow your work is gorgeous.

Yeah they were saying it would be a color + clear, so there is that advantage going with the local shop. They're who I'll go with I guess. I appreciate all the advice.

Nice work Kyle.
$450 is not out of the norm. I've gotten quotes of between $800-$2000 to paint my KZ. The second was with hand pained OEM looking striping. There is a local painter that did my Vmax
very reasonably, and I've gotten a lot of compliments on it.
