Lost another newbie rider over the weekend. A 21-year-old woman from the military base.

Looks like new to the motorcycle scene. riding with a bunch of tunerbikes.

Apparantly she was in the middle of the pack, when they entered a turn, and she went in to hot and hit the guard rail thus ending her life.

when I ride with newbies, I try to pass on my 38 years of riding knowlege.

the way the wreck was described to me was whe was trying to keep up with the bikes in front of her, and was being pushed by the bikes behind her. either way, WRONG!!
Your only as fast as your slowest rider.

What got me pissed is, what happened to "Look out for your fellow rider"? I know some of the responsibility is on her. But there should have been a "shadow" that was pacing her. I know all too well the area where she went down.

IMO, she went in to hot trying to keep up with the riders in front of her, and wasn't comfortable with leaning the bike. Speed to high, guard rail comes up, and you hit it.

That brings me to another thing.. Bike classes. take them. Starting next spring (riding is about over up here) I'm going to host a free class 2 times a year. I used to have a couple of pro racing licenses, and over 38 years of riding, my Dad a former motorcycle cop, and a another good friend of mine with a great knee dragging racing background are going to instruct. Those of you in other cities, Pay it forward, please. You shouldn't have to pay to enjoy safely what we all do. I know there are many many great riders out there.

Point being, if your riding with a newbie, stay in front and mind your mirrors. you slow down in front of them, they will slow down. It does you no good to follow, the reaction on thier mistake gives way to too much. Make sure that you tell them thier speed is A-Okay, and just because you have full leathers and a sportbike, you are not Eddie Lawson, or Freddie Spencer.
