Today I got the idle circuit screws set properly, and I got the carbs synced, and it does seem to run better, especially off idle.

I do still seem to have an issue. The RPM's generally descend slowly. And at times, the RPM's do not want to drop below two grand. And when they do descent below due to slowing down in gear, on occasion, if I pull in the clutch, the RPM's will climb back up.

I do know that the throttle itself snaps closed cleanly and sharply, so I know that it's not hanging open there. Nor did it appear that the slides were sticking when I had the airbox top off.

With the airbox fully assembled, I placed my hands over the two intakes, and the RPM's would immediately climb. This was my final clue that it is a vacuum leak. My first guess would be in the area of the tubes from the box to the carbs. Either at the carb end (not tightening down properly) or where the tubes connect to the airbox.

What are your thoughts on this guys?

Try running w/o airbox and repeating your test. Could be cracked vboost manifold or leaky vacuum port cap. Also, make sure choke plungers are fully closed.

Sounds like plugged pilot jets or something is really lean. Or I'm totally wrong. When my pilot jets were plugged up, the revs would drop really slowly below 2500.

I will try that tomorrow. (running without the airbox) I had checked the V-boost manifolds, the choke plungers, and the Vacuum port caps. (as well as the vacuum line coming off #2 carb) All appeared fine.

If it turns out to be the pilot jets, would I be better off taking Woona to Starting Line to do this job for me? I could do the peashooter and shotgun procedures myself, but will that be enough? I really do not relish the thought of pulling the carbs myself.

The peashooter and shotgun won't clear the pilot fuel jets. Cleaning them properly isn't too bad. There is always a first time. :) there are sticky posts in the carbs section showing how to remove your carbs

Make sure you carbs are seated properly in the boots.
Put A/F screws back to 2 1/2 turns and resync.

Check for vacuum leaks with an unlit propane torch.

You said it Dan-o!!!!!!!! :rofl_200::rofl_200:

With the bike not running,if you twist throttle does it snap back closed hard......with authority ???? Ie sticky cables. Also seen a diaphragm get pinched in the cover on resemble and that caused same issue.

Two of the tubes on the airbox were loose. I silicone them all, and she seems to be doin better now.

It still seems like the RPMs are dropping slower than they should. Maybe I should take a vid of the tack so y'all can see exactly what I mean. (maybe they are dropping normally, but the Max is still new to me, so I'm still learning lol)

Did you not have it down all the way onto all four carbs, or what?

It's an easy thing to do, not getting it back on all the way.

+1, been down that road myself, sometimes they will just not slide in like you want them to!
I guess you could say that has happened a few times in everybody's life!:biglaugh:

I will try to be patient with you two... yes, I DID have them seated properly. They were just loose as hell in the airbox itself.

With the number of times I have had the carbs off my previous bike (98 Shadow 750, which is a ROYAL PAIN to get the carbs mounted, then the plenum mounted after) I do know about making sure that they are hooked up right.

Sorry... feeling sicker than a dog right now... lack of sleep and a sinus migraine caused by allergies or a sinus infection... I don't mean to get grouchy with y'all

I hear you there on the sinus/ allergy issues, hit me hard earlier this year! I hope you feel better soon!
Good job on getting the airbox sealed up, air leaks are a pain in the rear!
