Ok, it's time to start looking at this winter's mods and I think it's time to change the front springs in my forks. My current progressives have over 80,000 on them and I think they are getting tired.

I see that Progressive now has "Drop In" lowering springs for the vmax. My current springs are stock length and I would like to do the internal lowering this time.

Anybody have any experience with these new "drop in" springs?

Mike

Not sure they are for our use. The lowering internally is done by putting springs on the bottom side of the dampening rod. Lowering any other way from what I can see would only take away preload and leave too much travel.

Well, sounds like the preload would be taken care of but you would still have the same problem that lowering through the trees have. That's the fender getting very close (and in many cases hitting) the radiator grill.

A friend of mine just put similar springs (drop in lowering springs) on his HD Dyna lowrider. He said it was super easy to do and the bike rides great with them. He was explaining them to me and I said I have no idea what he was talking about becuase I had to tear mine completely apart to lower them. Not sure i understand how they work??

interesting. replace the spacer with a harder/shorter spring?

I was looking at the progressive site and decided to find out "What fits my bike".

They are still spec'ing the same lowering kit as they were before (the one that requires disassembly of the entire fork to install.

I seriously doubt that they would be adding new kits for bikes that are no longer in production, unless you get lucky and a current production model cross fits our bikes.

Damn, your right :bang head: Sorry, oversight on my part. I did send them an email to see, if by chance they may make a kit for the Gen1 Vmax.

Received my response from Progressive and they are not planning on making a kit for the Gen1 max :tantrum:

the internal drop is really only a one day, few beer job.. its not too bad i promise!

Dropping the front is really a pretty easy job.

I consider myself an average wrencher and was able to do this in a couple of hours.

Watch Sean's videos once or twice, order a new set of seals, and new fork oil and go at it.

From what I can see the setup you pointed out where for bikes with "Cartridge" style forks.
