I have been a vmax owner for many years, but since the original came to market I always wanted one. Back in 1983, I had a venture royale and recently had an opportunity to buy a very nice Royale with 30,000 miles on it that ran like a swiss watch. This is what I did to the bike which included removing 205 pounds of bags, fairings, frame modifications....

I spent $1000 on my bike and about 100 hoursnaked1.jpg

huh, did not know the difference in the motor but your right, the venture royale does not have the v-boost. Factory specs though say it has 126hp which is almost 20 more than the factory vmax information i read.

My 2007 vmax was rated even worse then that... what gives with that?

You have to make sure how the numbers are taken. Is it at the motor, or at the rear wheel. Factory Vmax has 145 hp at the motor.

83 Venture has a crank HP rating of 89. 1200cc. 34mm carbs 117.5 main jets.

I am sort of what you would call an expert on differences between VMax & Ventures.

And some of.the.world got a 'restricted' 90 hp Vmax without the VBoost, same.with the early ZZR1100/ZX11, strangled to please politicians... Swiss and Danish markets were even worse, 65 hp - how cruel is that? Only.lasted a few years in the early 90s apart from France, Switzerland and Denmark, luckily.
A VMax is a rare sight in France, people watch and listen when you pull out of car parks! Great country to ride.in though, cars pull into the ditch to let you pass!

I'll have to disagree with that Dave. France has some of the biggest Vmax clubs and rallies in the world (e.g. Nancy and Hourtin), and to be straight it was due to a frenchman that the vmax was brought into europe to start with.

Finally, a Vmax with some range. Well, change out the carbs and top end then you'll have something! Maybe change the rear diff to a Vmax unit unless you'll be doing the majority of your riding at moderate highway speeds.
