Purpose of clutch master cylinder switch?

I discovered that the switch on my clutch master cylinder has a problem with it. What is the purpose of this switch? Brake switch operates lights on the brake m/c but what does this switch on the clutch m/c do?

It allows you to start the bike in gear as long as your sidestand is up.

You're welcome! Some use the switch for a progressive NOS controller. hehe.
