I have a 98 w/44k miles. The rear brake started making a howling sound when brake applied. Mostly after the rotor is hot from use (not squeak, not squeal). I replaced the rotor with a new OEM rotor. Replaced the pads with EBC pads and rubber pad shims. All was good for a few hundred miles. Now the same howling sound when rear brake applied when hot. I'm ready to can the OEM rotor and go to an EBC rotor. Has anyone had this or a similar issue? Am I jumping the gun in canning the OEM rotor? What am I overlooking?

Thanks

Sounds almost like a ca;iper
How are the pads wearing
Did you bleed the rear caliper out recently

Ya, I think it might be that the pistons aren't retracting after the brake is applied. That would heat up the rotor and really heat it up when the brake is applied. I'm going to rebuild the caliper and take it from there.

get that sound once in a while when applying the rear brake ...but only once in a while i can try the rest of the day and it wont do it again

Mine just started making what sounds and feels like a faint GRINDING....

Rear pads are less than 400 miles on them, even wear, rotor is smooth, has 34,000 miles on it tho'.
Nothing dragging either....

I don't really see why it's doing it, they aren't running hot and it does it when they're cold or warm......

:ummm::ummm::ummm:

Oh well, I hardly use 'em anyway......

The Galfer rotor is the way to go! www.whitebuffaloracing.com can setcha up! :eusa_dance: I think I paid 115 for it a little over a year ago.

My rear makes a weird noise at very slow speeds but never at normal speeds. I use my rear when maneuvering more than anything...
