I just put on new EBC pads on the front and rear, my rear breaks squeak / squeal super loud. What the hell is making them do that, and more important how do I make them stop squeaking. I only have about 300 miles on them and it started after about 100 miles....

When I install new pads, I look at the leading and trailing edge. If there are sharp angles of the braking material,
I round them off just a tiny bit. Never had squealing then...

I usually put a dab of silicone lubricant on the pad backing where it comes into contact with the caliper. I also put a little on the pins that hold pads in place.

Any grease that will stay where you put it will help dan-o.
I've used Harley's Synthetic Dot 5 Brake Fluid, LIGHTLY...:biglaugh:
It's Sylicone...

Thanks guys, way out in the weeds here but will pick up some anti-squel next time I'm 'in town,' in the meantime, some sylicone lube will do! :worthy:

Got the Quabbin Run coming up Sunday and don't want to embarass the other V Max'rs with howling brakes!! :biglaugh:

You can use about any silicone where the pads touch the brake pistons. I have used clear, red, or blue over the years. It'll all work. I've never had any problems cleaning it off if/when I wanted it back off, and you'd be hard put to ever see it back there.

I also put a dib of it between the pads and the metal backers when they are present. I still have the OEM metal backers on mine. My Runes have them as well. I forgot to do the silicone on my Rune rear pads when I replaced them this spring, and quickly remembered why I should always do it. I took them back off this past weekend, applied the silicone, and VIOLA!, no more squawking.

Thanks for the tips! I pulled them off and put a little grease on the back of the pads and the pins, squeak is gone. 15 minute fix.....

Good to hear, but don't forget what Specs recommended about the Sharp edges on the pad that could cause it also.....

morelys graphite stuff he sells that goes on the pads themselves works good too
