Refitting logos and emblems

So I'm ready to put my V-max logos back on my side covers and might be vinyl wrapping my tank cover. What adhesive are you guys using to get those things to sit flush to the panels? I peeled off the gray sticky stuff when I took the emblems off, but I'm pretty sure it's not just 3m tape. That seems too thick and the parts might have little gaps behind them. I know you know what I'm talking about. So what have you guys used?

I just use the 3m tape its not perfectly flat but it mashes down pretty good.

Do you just use little tabs or do you cut it and fill in big portions of the back (I'm thinking about the side cover logos)?

I just side cover logos back on my 2000 I used a bigger piece in the center & just small pieces on the ends.
