I put an Elecrtrosport MOSFET R/R unit in a few years ago, along with the Gold Wing battery mod, and soldered R/R-stator connections. Was getting a good 14.4 volt charge. + and - wires run directly to battery.
Yesterday, the bike wouldn't start. No charge at all to the battery... 11 volts running, and dropping slowly. Ok, I know the routine, having owned the bike for 28 years.. I cut the 3 wires (The point where they were soldered was pretty hot after a few minutes running), and checked my stator output.
All 3 legs were putting out 20 - 21 volts AC at idle, and 55 - 58 volts at 3500 RPM. Used a cheap Harbor Freight voltmeter to measure ohms showed a bit more than .5 ohms across the legs. Thinking the stator is ok.
100% confident that it's a toasted regulator/rectifier unit..
Bought another Electrosport Mosfet unit from Amazon for $55.00.
Seeing that Everyone (including my son...) is now calling my Max "His" bike - I ought to make him pay for it....
