How are you guys getting the tamper resistant bolt out on the plate that covers the diaphragm?

I don't have one of those special Torx wrenches with the hole in the center.

I was thinking of slotting it with a dremmel, but I don't want to screw up the bolt so that I need an extractor to get it out.

Is there a semi easy or generally accepted approach to this or is the brute force approach the best one.

I broke the tit out of the center of the screw and used an allen wrench.
Not recommended, but it worked.

Agreed....a vise grip will take it off without to much trouble. You can then replace it with a regular head bolt. If you wanted to get the proper size tool, it's a T25. I picked mine up at a local Menards. I would guess any box home improvement store would have them.

My local " Ace " hardware store stocks 'em.

Seafom worked for me.

If you have a regular Torx that fits, just break off the center extrusion with a screwdriver or other suitable tool. It pops off very easily with little force. It will be reusable also. However, I replaced all my screws with stainless steel allen head screws.

Harbor Freight makes a small impact driver set that works perfectly on smaller and more delicate parts. Normal impact drivers have been known to break expensive carb parts/tabs. (Part # 93481-0VGA - $5.95).

All the above plus...as you first mentioned...Dremel a slot and use a flat blade screwdriver, that works well too.

Strongly suggest going to S/S allen head bolts tho, makes life much simpler. :punk:

I used the vicegrip method for years but now have the tool (thanks Jeff). I did finally start stocking the chrome stainless bolts for the carb covers. Can't remember the price a the moment but want to say about $1.50 per bolt or so.

New stainless bolts are already in hand, I just didn't want to go at it without checking the collective wisdom.

The only place I could find the tamper resistant torx set was my local Sears Hardware. Unfortunately they only have a full set. I am not going to buy a full set to remove 4 bolts........maybe if I assembled public restrooms for a living, but not for 4 carb bolts.

Looks like that little center stud has a date with a screwdriver later today.
