I am sure the answer is simple - but how does one remove the chrome bolt caps from the handelbar brackets without scratching the $#!^ out of the housing?

Try strong double sided tape. Otherwise find a small micro screwdriver to carefully pry it off.

Scratch the shit out of them and goto the hardware store and buy 4 new ones at .75 a piece. :rofl_200:

Need a link(s) to replacement OEM bolt caps if you scratch stock caps?
These bolt caps from Mike Sayers (VMOA Discount?) are not exactly the same as stock but they are nickle plated (not plastic) and fit on tightly. I use both 5mm and 6mm on mine.
Gary McCoy at Mondak Motorsports can get you the factory plastic caps (part # PLUG,SPEC'L SHAPE: 90338-08163-00). Look under "steering", it is part # 15. (I used year 2000 model as my search criteria)
Tell Mike and Gary you came from VMForums!
