Hey guys, i was syncing my carbs and i noticed cracks in the rubber boots in between the carbs and intake manifolds. I sprayed starting fluid on them and didnt notice a change but the cracks look pretty bad so im gonna go ahead and order some new ones. The ones for the vboost look fantastic.

I called University Motors (where gary mccoy is at) And ordered new ones, the total came out to 43.00 with shipping to illinois.

He charged me 8$ and change a piece for them

Does this sound right?

I checked on www.yamaha-motorcycleparts.com after ordering from them and correct me if im wrong but according to the microfiche i need:

1FK-13595-00-00 JOINT

So i need 4 of these right? Well there price is cheaper if im correct $6.08 x4 =$24.32 plus shipping

Im not jumping to conclusions but i thought university motors was the cheapest place to get parts? Did i just get haggled by some idiot working there? I didnt talk to gary himself. Any input greatly appreciated guys, im not going to cry over saving 10 dollars but i want to know if i was overcharged or not u know.....

Now, when I needed the same boots for my max a few months back, I went to my local dealer.

I took it in the cornhole for $13 a piece. Yamaha itself might have a great price on them now, but next week that could change. Prices flux all the time.

However, in my case I needed them pronto (or I couldn't ride) so I delt with the hit I took in order to get things done.

3 1FK-13597-00-00 JOINT, CARBURETOR 3 4
4 1FK-13595-01-00 JOINT 4

Ok, check the above numbers. The top number is the carb to mainfold joints (latest number) and the lower number (which you looked up) is the V-boost joints. Retail is over $14 each so you are probably getting the correct parts. I don't recall what Gary sells them for but I want to say in the $9 each range.

Thanks guys. I had a hard time with the microfiche so i checked the part numbers you gave me and im getting a pretty damn good deal. Your right i was looking at vboost rubbers which i dont need.

I synced them carbs and MAN what a difference! Runs smooth now and dosnt vibrate as bad, dosnt smell extremely rich (need to check plugs still) But i can even feel a difference in the power.

I did notice something funky though, when i got the carbs synced real good by that time the temp was way up close to the red, well it ran wierd it had a kind of fluctuating idle. I kept thinking my vac guages were off but i left it alone put her back together and took her out.
As soon as the temp goes down it idles like a kitten compared to what it did before but like i said when it gets hot the idle goes all wierd on me. Is this normal? Thanks guys :eusa_dance:

Yep, ride often! Otherwise, maybe use Armorall to keep them soft?

I would think as long as your riding fairly often you should be good. For storing, maybe a very light coating of petrolium jelly? You know, for you folks that actually get winter.

Just my two cents worth but rubber cracking comes mostly from exposure to the sun and the elements PLUS Father Time also plays a big role. From my experience, most rubber cracks first from the outside and as it gets worse, penetrates the inner layer too. Have never tried any preservative myself.

I was told a "secret" by an old Subaru guru, that to keep his CV joint rubbers soft and from becoming brittle.
He would use some of the "soap" that they use to fit your tire when mounting it.
This might work for the boots.

Isn't that "soap" just watered down dish soap? :confused2: Could be wrong....
