I just used Sea Foam for the first time yesterday and let my engine idle a few minutes. This morning I rode it to work and it idled and ran perfect. I'm a believer! I added about 1/3(aprox.5 oz.) of the bottle to about 3 gal. of gas.
On another note I tried some "Start Your Engine" treatment a few weeks ago when my engine started to die at stop lights and didn't notice that much difference.Engine seemed a little peppier maybe but the problem didn't go away and that stuff is pricey.

If you search "Marvel Mystery Oil" I had also posted about this during an earlier discussion of fuel additives, primarily. In the 1950's/'60's, MMO was used for a siphon system as a "top cylinder lubricant" which would be fed into the carb. I"m not sure if it was done thru the vacuum hose of the carb or if there was a plate fitted-under the carb, but the idea was to slowly feed it into the carb. You would periodically replenish a bottle dispenser under the hood which fed the carb. Many mechanics would recommend its use for higher-mileage engines to help deal w/valve stem deposits, sticky piston rings, etc. it was also put into the oil. Years in the past, if I was a quart low in oil for the car or truck crankcase, I would add a quart of ATF the week before I changed the oil, it seemed to help remove any accumulation of deposits. I also used ATF in my two-stroke dirt bikes w/wet clutches, and would change it in the tranny after every race. Back then I was running hare scrambles and enduros in MI and then FL, and it seemed to work fine.

I suggest looking at my info from the earlier thread.

Strange, the last couple of posts I have made today are turning-up as double-posts. I am not sure why, maybe those Mideast physicists are going crazy, "who is this 'vmaxforum.net' person?'" :biglaugh:

Fire Medic --I used to add a couple of capfulls of Marvel Mystery oil to my ole shovel head gas tank on a regular basis. :biglaugh:

My buddy has a 1980 80 cu inch LowRider he bought new which spontaneously treats all riders behind him to tiny globs of oil spray from the exhaust. I think it has ~24K mi on it & the heads have never been off, it doesn't foul plugs constantly, and the top end is probably just over 100 mph, shedding parts from vibration/metal fatigue. It cruises OK at 65-70 but when you try to push it above that for an extended period, you can tell it's straining. He would never try to see "how-fast she will go," these days as the end result would probably be a mortally-wounded v-twin. I think he paid about $4400 new for it. It still looks fine, though, and it sounds good.

My next door neighbor just showed me his FLH, an 1985 model he bought from a Merchant Marine captain he served under. He tried to ride it to FL from TX & it broke-down. He had to rent a truck to get it back, & he had his girlfriend w/him. It originally was a MX Police bike which came-back across the border when he sold it to a federal CBP officer in the Laredo TX area, who sold it to the Merchant Marine captain. Still a nice-looking bike, & first yr of the Evolution. I believe the engine unit was replaced somewhere along the line w/a factory replacement. Interestingly, the bike was w/the MM captain on his ships of duty, so the bike literally has travelled around the world, and has wheeled on several continents.

I used Marvel Mystery oil as an additive to each tank of AV-gas I ran through a high-output, high compression VW sand rail engine. That darn engine still pinged on 103-5 octane AV-gas. It was a 1600cc VW , with 92mm heads fly-cut 100 thousandths. I only added the Marvel because AV-gas is supposed to be so dry. I may still have a partial can in a cabinet some place.

That buggy was F U N on the chat piles in and around Picher OK back in the day. Fed Gov't came along and fenced it all off, then labeled it a Super Fund Site. Say......maybe that's what's wrong with me........I inhaled too much lead poisioning while dunebuggying on the chat piles??? Where's that list with all those lawyers on it...................

ATF is a great sludge treatment and cleaner. It's been used 50/50 for a short deration (20 minutes). Then, new oil and filter.

1/3 can of sea foam every 3rd tank. However I do have some Marvel Mystery Oil in the garage...maybe I'll tro some in the tank....can't hurt

Most of all this stuff can be checked real easy. Put some dirty gas in a sealed glass container, add sea foam and see what happens in a day or two. Once when I was rebuilding some brake componets someone tells me that if I used standard o'rings they would swell, that I needed to use special brake o'rings. I threw a standard o'ring in a glass container with brake fluid and put the top on. Six months later that o;ring was still good as new. I use off the shelf fuel injector cleaner for my Bike. Doesn't seem to matter which brand. The stuff I buy down here in Mexico is all written in Spanish anyhow which I can't read.

I stopped using sea foam, its mostly lubricants, i now use B12 Chemtool, this stuff is the ****! Beware it will burn you up like acid on your skin... But it does wonders for the carbs and fuel mileage....

Now, i must say I do not but it in over the winter as a fuel stabilizer, i use it in the summer while the bike is being used, it has done Wonders for my max....

Wow, I never imagined so many remarks about gas additives. It is 6 of one and half dozen of another.

Some additives appear to be "hotter" than others, some are more expensive than others, some you question the effect on rubber, others you question the effect on the problem.

I guess I will try some Sea Foam, 1 oz. per gallon soon. I also use Chevron Concentrated Gas Additive every once in a while.

I always think back to the basics with fuel, 1) use quality 100% higher octane gas, 2) keep gas tank topped off, 3) maintain good fuel filter inline, 4) burn some water removing additive through the system every once in a while, 5) ride at least once a week in non-riding season, and 6) store with stabilizer.

i just dont understand why some folks cant take a few minutes b4 putting there bike away and add sum fuel stablizer.

i cant count how many bikes i have seen that got all fubared up for that reason alone:ummm:,,,,,

but yea there are many good products out there.

just have to USE em:biglaugh:

I just put about 1/3 of a can of sea foam in this morning on a full tank. I burned that tank off today and the stuff is unreal. I filled up on the way home and you could actually feel the difference without it in the fuel. These modern fuels just blow for carbs. Seafoam is awesome ! I want to find a little 3 oz container that will fit near the fuel cap for long rides so I can just dump some in every time.

Yes, me and a lot of others. However, I'm not recommending anything. Some test claim rubber problems. No issues here in 3 years. Very little is used.
Google it, if interested.

I was just a little shocked when I read that, I have worked for a high purity solvent manufacture for over 23 years now and and I see first hand what acetone
will do to rubber and plastic. I would pass on that method in fear of adding to much and deteriorating the rubber parts.

What is the recommended amt of it in a tankfull for a good cleaning? What do you put in?

I never drink more than 1/2 bottle per hour, or my vision goes black and white. Then things get weird. Bike seems run like a scalded cat after 2-3 bottles though.
I would suggest starting this only if you have Friday off, and can use the weekend to recooperate. I feel clean as a whistle come Monday morning.

My best use for Seafoam is for doing the peashooter carb cleaning. I do this even when there is no issue as part of regular maintenance. If the bike does act up I use spray carb cleaner (any brand) and the shot gun method. Putting additives in the tank won't get the air jets clean.
