Hi All

I just got my first Vmax today. Have been riding since the last 18 years and just moved to a vmax. Have always wanted to have one. Now I do :) I just moved from a Hinda Nighthawk 750...a really nice but tame bike.

So, if i ask stupid questions please excuse.

Firstly...the guy i got the bike from hadnt ridden it in a year. He just got a new battery put in to sell the bike. The bike definitely needs a tune up and or a carb clean out. It idles rough and is sluggish in starting from stop. None of the famed pick up I was hoping for.

What entails a tune up. What kind of cost am I looking at ? are there any quick fixes to enable me to push the repairs a couple of months away. With my old Honda, I could put a half-bottle of Sea Foam and it cleaned out the gummed carbs admirably.

Someone on a yahoogroup told me to try the shotgun fix to the Carb.

What is that ?

I am going to try putting a half can of Sea Foam.

I have to ride 40 miles to my mechanic and would rather do it with a slightly easily breathing bike.

thanks in advance

Thanks for the reply.

I havent had time to look under the seat. However is it easy to remove the tank and turn it over to see if rust/crud/dirt falls out ??

Or should I just drain the completely and then change the filters.

I would drain the tank, there's a drain bolt on the bottom. The fuel filter is just above the battery on the right side.
