due to my bikes poor idling when hot I did some searches on here to see if I could find the problem, it seems there are quite a few possibilities and one I will do later is the shotgun clean, but today while looking at my plug caps which as far as I can tell are the originals (1991), three of them are cracked and burned where they touch the cylinders and on the EXACTREP site they say this is from arcing rather than melting, so I have ordered new caps, leads and plugs, hopefully it will improve the running issue but if not then they obviously needed to be replaced anyway

A good place to start and while you are at it make sure the HT leads and the tops of the coils are clean.
If any doubt about the leads change them, they are cheap enough.

Also din't ignore the basics and synchronise the cabs if not done recently and also change the plugs, air and fuel filters.

If you are in the UK The Green Spark Plug Co has a good range of caps and leads.

the carbs were recently done as was the airfilter, I haven't seen a fuel filter yet but I'm sure I will :), I will also do a more visual inspection of the coils, one of them has had the wires cut for some reason and they were just twisted back together ?, I have now soldered them and insulated with tape, there isn't enough room for heat shrink as the soldering heat would shrink it before it went over the join, I am in the UK (Oxfordshire) and thanks for the link but I have already ordered some plugs caps and leads from Exactrep,
hoping now that it will be sorted as I'm looking forward to starting the painting and polishing
