Starter Clutch Questions

Hello All. Two questions.

1. Do I need special bolts for the starter clutch? Should I buy from Yamaha @$5.76 apiece? Is hardware store bolts adequate?

2. Red loctite on the starter clutch bolts?

I would only replace them if they are no longer serviceable and then get the OE bolts so you know they are to the correct specification.
Red will be fine; I recall reading somewhere (but can't recall where) that you could ( should?) also spot punch between the end of the thread and flywheel?
When I stripped my engine the PO had put a spot of weld to make sure they didn't loosen!

I rebuilt a few non-Vmax starter clutches.

I used bolts from the hardware store, but I remember matching the hardness.

I have used red Loctite. Be careful not to use too much or it migrates where you don't want it.

Hardware store bolts will work as long as you match the grade of bolt as mentioned above
