This word has come up lately in a few threads. I didn't know what it meant, until I did a search, and Mr. Bazwell summed it up nicely .....

"Steampunk is Victorian era (1837 - 1901) artifacts with modern type technology. Steampunk has its roots in sci-fi and Jules Verne type stuff"

Examples in the pics. Feel free to add your own. Methinks I like the Steampunk look!

thanks a bunch! i've keep seeing bits and hints of the genre's influence on the tube and was completely entranced. each time i would say to myself "how neat, but what exactly am i looking at? there must be some kind of urban colloquialism to label the look".

I guess the " Disco " look may not be completely dead then huh ? :rofl_200:
I'm bettin' that it ain't, Rollie.
That's why I've had my white polyester "leisure suit" covered in plastic, and stored in my closet, for the last 35 years.

HUH HUH HUH HUH ... STAYIN' ALIVE!!!!! :eusa_dance:

"what was so wrong with disco?", said Miles' monkey

Is it easy to copper plate an aluminum scoop?
Zincate-Nickel-Copper...

maybe copper spraypaint is an easier solution

I know it's difficult, but check out the bowler-hatted dude behind the lady (my guess would be that this pic was taken at a Steampunk convention) Look at the copper tanks he's rockin'. Which makes me think of the ultimate steampunked Vmax mod.....wearing your nitrous bottles on your back!

isn't steam punk kinda like if tech stopped in the 50's and a lot of things were powered by steam instead of electronic?

From Wikipedia:
"Steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction that typically features steam-powered machinery,[1] especially in a setting inspired by industrialized Western civilization during the 19th century. Therefore, steampunk works are often set in an alternate history of the 19th century's British Victorian era or American "Wild West", in a post-apocalyptic future during which steam power has regained mainstream use, or in a fantasy world that similarly employs steam power. Steampunk perhaps most recognizably features anachronistic technologies or retro-futuristic inventions as people in the 19th century might have envisioned them, and is likewise rooted in the era's perspective on fashion, culture, architectural style, and art. Such technology may include fictional machines like those found in the works of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne, or the modern authors Philip Pullman, Scott Westerfeld, and China Mi?ville. Other examples of steampunk contain alternate history-style presentations of such technology as lighter-than-air airships, analog computers, or such digital mechanical computers as Charles Babbage and Ada Lovelace's Analytical Engine.
Steampunk may also, though not necessarily, incorporate additional elements from the genres of fantasy, horror, historical fiction, alternate history, or other branches of speculative fiction, making it often a hybrid genre. The term steampunk's first known appearance was in 1987, though it now retroactively refers to many works of fiction created even as far back as the 1950s or 1960s."

Ah, I think I get it? Like the Wild, Wild West Movie and even the TV series with James West and Artemus Gordon. A lot of the stuff was steam powered or at least was meant to look like it was.
