Today I went to a large machine shop to hopefully cure the issue I'm having with my MadMax swingarm. A good friend suggested I see this guy who runs the shop. I showed him the shaft/gear that broke and in the middle of the discussion he said " if you want to see a real hotrod bike look at this" and as he turned to show me I saw a picture hanging on the office wall. Sure enough it was a picture of a Vmax!! So I said that's exactly the bike I have and proceeded to show him pictures of mine." Ok no problem" he said, it it was any other bike I wouldnt even try but since he was a former Vmax owner he said he'll do his best to help me. I even told him that once I get it going again I'll bring it out to show him and even let him take it for a ride. He declined taking it, something about his wife killing him, lol, but it just goes to show the Legend lives on!! We then starting swapping Vmax stories and he looked like a kid at Christmas looking at my pictures. So with a little luck, I'll make it to thunder next week. It was just so cool to meet someone who had the same love for the baddest *** bike ever made. Ed
 
Yep, its a legend in its own time, while the value drops every year, I expect it to become a collectors item at some point in time and the value of our beloved Vmax will rise once again...........

No doubt that some day they will be thought of as "collector's items",and their value will rise, but that may be decades from now. and of course the earlier models with the least amount of modifications will fetch the highest prices.
From a cost of restoration viewpoint, the Vmax bides well. Thousands upon thousands of the earlier '85, '86 models were produced, and few changes were made until '93. Consequently, there should still be a sizeable inventory of the early bikes, in all conditions, and individual parts to choose from, if one wanted to put together a completely bone-stock, virgin, hymen-intact (no offense, Buster) early model Vmax. I'm surprised that I don't see more people on this forum doing just that.
if I had a completely stock '85, I'd be very tempted to encase it in bubblewrap and store it in a safe place. Maybe pick up a late model as a daily driver/modifier. Then who knows - 2035 rolls around, a bike collector gets wind about your pristine '85, and just like that, you've got the bucks for your grandson's tuition!...... or a few extra month's rent in Sunnyview Retirement Home. Just sayin'............................

I don't believe the Max will ever become a collectors item, yes there may be some MC museum that needs one now and then, but I don't see the value going up or people searching for them as a keep sake.

Rusty, there's a guy here named Wes. Kyle knows him. He's a bit of a legend with VMax's around here. I've loosely known him since before VMax days. Now, a good friend works for him at CycleRama. He seldom shows anyone his old Max's but I'm working on that...:biglaugh: Sounds great that you found one of the same there...

Yeah in 2035 there may be no fuel to run our internal combustion engines! I can see in the next 15 years some politician getting a hair up their *** to work on a ban for all the old, non-ZEV fuel burners on the road.

When the V-Max is outlawed, only outlaws will ride V-Maxes!:punk:
