Hi guys

I bought a set of dual slip-on mufflers and would like to know if they will work well with stock headers. I was hoping one of you could tell me the inner diameter of the stock headers. I want it to breathe right and i might need to get wider headers but im not really sure if the stock ones will be up to the job... Can the tuning gurus throw a line in regarding this issue?. By the way the mufflers are a twobrothers oval that came from a ZX10R... Thanks

i think most people are gonna tell you to upgrade the headers. Sean Morley recently convinced me to do a 4-1 Hindle Header with Devil can and i'm glad i did.

Then after you do that you're gonna wanna rejet the carbs.

if all you want is a little extra sound and better looks you can likely just throw em on & leave it but you won't get any performance gains.

those mufflers sound great tho, are they carbon fiber?

I wonder if you could go 4 into 1 header & use one of those can's.. that might be pretty dope

check out this page from morleymuscle, you can see how small the stock headers are, remember the pipe you see on the outside is simply a cover of the real pipe which is a much smaller diameter.

http://www.morleysmuscle.com/muscle-bikes/vmax/muscle-exhaust

he lists some very good options/alternatives & if you look at the picture reel you'll see one with the different header sizes, including stock.

These are the ones i bought: http://www.twobros.com/cgi-bin/shop...TBRSearchResult-Simple-Kaw-ZX10R-DUAL-07.html
Dual oval carbon fiber with magnesium slant tip. I'll try to find a good set here in old Europe. Custom taxes importing from US are killers... those beaver headers look cool, brushed stainless and they are made in the UK... Regarding jet i still need to verify that. I might be installing a cheap stage 7 i found... By the way what is kerker's, hindle's or other brands headers inner diameter? I have some good exhaust makers around here and i might get a quote from them as well... Thanks

Yeah those i'll have to do eitherway, im just thinking if i should go for different header or not... They don't come cheap and im really not looking for high end performance but if its a huge difference i might consider it even because my stock chromed ones are getting a bit rusty.

Stock engine, stock pipes (including slip ons) is typically 110-115HP. Full header with jet kit is typically 120-125hp. Its up to you if the added HP is worth the cost. Your idea with the custom Y pipe should work just fine. It would look good and sound good. It shouldn't hurt performance if done right but it won't add any either. You could always upgrade to aftermarket headers later.

As far as tuning goes you may want to consider leaning the mains to 150 or so.

Hi Mike

Yeah regarding the carbs optimizing i'll have to rely on you guys because im getting off my terf on that subject... Probably its a good idea to just slip them on on the stock pipes and then see how it behaves and if needed just get wider pipes. I might be getting a stage 7 and in that case how should i do with the jetting and fine tuning? Thanks

Can one of you guys grab a caliper and measure the diameter of your aftermarket pipes?

I wouldnt recommend a stage 7 kit unless you go to a full aftermarket system. If you just use those slip-ons, all you need to do is lean out a size or two smaller than stock jetting. Stage 7 setup is very temperamental and needs adjusting for the different riding seasons from what I hear. With a full system, most go to a morley muscle kit which has been streamlined for optimal performance for our bike.

Just my 2 cents.....

Yes im more inclined to replace the headers for new ones. I have a friend that makes headers for racing cars and he told me he can make them with no hassle at all. I just talked about the stage 7 because i got one really cheap and don't want to see it on the shelf. I'll go for 43 ID and 45 OD SS tubing.
Thanks for the info Kelly.

I have Stage 7 on the '90 & a Morley Jet kit on the '98 . I haven't had to adjust the '90 in over 4 years , runs great. No adjustments on Seans kit either , but it has only been on 1 year to date. Running full Kerkers 4-1 on both bikes.
