I'm gonna do this modification as soon as I can win an auction on EBay.
Hopefully, the seller will include the wiring harness.

Actually, this is gonna work out to be 2 stupid questions so bear with me.

1. If I cannot get a wiring harness, is there any way to make a connector to attach to the COP? I was thinking of a couple spade connectors, plugged in, and a bit of silicone seal filled in to water seal it...

2. At the other end of the wiring - where the COP attaches to the bikes wiring - is that connection one way only, or does it not matter which way you attach the wires to the bikes wiring? Kinda like the stator wires, any way will be OK...

I've just gotten into this COP thing - it's brilliant! I do think I'd cut the plugs off the coil wires, and plug it directly in. I can't see anyone wanting a set of 25-year old coils with 120,000 miles on 'em!

Bill, here's the COP stickey I started when I did the mod. You can make your own harness easily enough, just like you described and it will work fine. I'm not sure on the polarity thing tho....it may matter which side the hot goes in the coil stick, but I don't know for sure.

Hey Bill, I picked up some of the terminals for wiring up my COP's at Eastern Beaver. This was I didnt have to cut apart my wiring on the OEM coils. You can remove the yellow plastic clip by sliding a small pic into the clip to release the tab.

Funny I've been wondering about the polarity thing too, as it may have something to do with the complete impossibility of making my T-boost work, ever? (T-Boost makes my Vboost valves open at 9000rpm instead of 3000 ?!?!)

Also remember that it's a weird circuit - it's 'always on' then gets grounded to produce the spark.

I have mine COP's set from kawi zx10r.
I did find correct polarity in zx10r electrical diagram.

Thats the way i went.

Do you fancy sharing that Przemek?

On all COPs harnesses, there's a common color and 4 diff colors - 1 for each coil.

Which connects to the Vmax (orange) common, and which to the four Vmax coil colored wires?

Sure G, where are my manners :bang head:
Sorry.

Mostly I saw COP's to have common red wire which is the postive wire.
Diffrent colors are ground.

-So RED common form COP harness to RED/WHITE(older model ORANGE?) common into v-max harness.
-Diffrent colors from COP harness into ORANGE, GREY, YELLOW, WHITE v-max harness.

What I saw that most COP's are triggered by "grounding" so exactly the same as v-max.

I wound up buying 4 of these... Look like they'll fit great.
Can't wait to install them, but I think I may have to re-thread the spark plug holes in the heads....

My common color on my COP's wiring harness was BLACK. So I am using this as the negative on my Max harness. Is mine hooked up backwards?

Got a set off EBay (GSXR ) for $15.01 shipped....
Anyone out there got a set of 4 connectors they might want to sell?

I bealive thats your BLACK is most likely the POSITIVE wire.
I only saw few bikes with common GROUND and positive wire triggering method.

Actually COIL is a COIL and its non pole element so it supose to work both ways.
However, its always no good to change working conditions so sudden.
Imagine the colis that is working fine for over 50k miles and some day some guy tooked it onto his v-max and he swaped the wires.
No good i guess.

Mosdt defo 90% of coils will works fine when swapped.

It will not hurt to find the donnor electrical diagram and keep "old" wireing like it was.

Przemek, Thanks for your advice. I will swap the wires around. I agree with you about changing the direction that something is working.

Got the COPs & harness in, cost about $27.00 for everything shipped.
I lengthened the wires from the harnesses (I could get about 6" from the original harness after stripping all the tape off.) I'm figuring the 4 wires that are the same color (in this case - black/white stripe) are going to the positive wires in the connectors (again, the 4 that are the same color). I used red wire for these, just to keep everything somewhat in order.
The 4 differing color wires on the COP harness are going to be considered negative, and I added black wire to these. These go to the other wires in the connectors.

I'm going to crimp on connectors, and just plug them in for now. I assume they will work just fine, and after a few days of testing, I'll cut off my connectors, remove the plugs from the coils, and plug them in as stock. I will then take out the coils, and offer them up here to anyone who needs a set of 25 year old coils with no connectors. Free - you pay ship (Priority Mail box, about 6 bucks - you donate the $6.00 to SPCA)

Of course everything is soldered, and heat shrinked. I made the wires about 12" long total - hope they are long enough.....

Did the rear cylinders today. I removed the old coils, and noticed no arcing lines. However, the bike started easier, and seemed to run smoother with just the 2 COPS in. Fronts going in Saturday.

I did notice a lot of green corrosion where the high-tension wire entered the coils. Wonder what that did to the spark??

Finished the job today. Major difference in how it runs now.
Those old coils musta been in worse shape than I figured. I wound up removing the plugs from them and soldered into the front harnesses. Neat plug-in now.
Tim came over - showed off his '93. Nice looking machine!

I am very grateful for this forum. Besides being a bunch of cool people, I got some killer ideas to keep the Max alive at least as long as I am!:punk:
