I was wondering what the replacement pad for this is. I had no idea that the rear caliper wasn't a stock one, and I had ordered stock rear pads just to find out they were not right.
I tried to cross reference on the net but without knowing what exactly it came off, I don't wanna order another set yet. I have attached a few pics, thanks in advance guys. IMG_1963.jpgIMG_1964.jpgIMG_1965.jpg

Looks like a R-1 Yamaha left front used on the VMax rear. The older ones, not the radial brakes. They were called 'blue dot' because the star insert was usually blue, tho some were gold on the limited edition.

Yeah, the star insert was blue. What year older R-1 are you guys thinking?

Those should be 2002-2003 R1 most likely, possibly all the way back to 2000, i cant remember. In 2004 the R1 went to radial brakes. I have Gold dots on my front and i use pads that cover the 2002 R1.

Gold dots on the front of your vmax?

That caliper has a external balance pipe on it. Not you typical R1, R6 caliper.

I'm not sure what the difference is, if anything. I've read the calipers with a balance pipe are 2 piece, not mono block which is one of the big plusses with the blue dots. I don't know if that is true or not.

Go to ebay UK. Type in thundercat caliper. You will see a bunch pop up with the balance pipe.

I would think the pads would be interchangeable with other blue and gold spots but, I don't know for sure.

Nice, thanks for the info and help guys. I think I am on the right path to replacing my pads now. These are pretty good calipers and might upgrade the stock fronts to these if possible. Thanks for the help, greatly appreciated

Is there a preferred pad from you guys running these already?

I bought pads for my R1 caliper on the rear from Sean. EBC organic is probably the most popular choice for the rear. I run EBC HH sintered in the back.
