Is anyone on the Forum using one of these to increase gas capacity? I looked at their Website and my first blush response was, are these things any good and do they work as claimed? It looks like you would need a passenger sissybar/backrest to mount it against. I would like to go on trips on my '04, but the low cruising range is my first obstacle to overcome.
Thanks.
Jack.

Well I don't really see how they couldn't work, it's just a plain jane aluminum tank as far as I can tell. My dune buggy had a 5 gallon tank just like that just on a gravity feed to the old v-dub 1600 and it worked fine.

The question would be how to integrate it. I think the Max has a tank drain bung, which if you could find a threaded nipple to take it's place and run that line up to the aux tank would work, provided there was a valve in line so if both tanks were full the higher aux tank wouldnt force fuel in the main out the vent. So if the aux was the 2.5 gal version, when your fuel light trips reach back and open the valve for an "instant fill up". Since the aux would be higher than the main it'd just dump all the fuel into the main over the course of a minute or two and it'd be done.

The OE sissy bar/luggage rack would seem to be a convenient place to stick the "log". I'm not sure where else it would go without being in the way.

Personally if I'm alone and out "exploring" I stick a 2 liter soda bottle full of gas in a backpack. Figure that's good for ~20 miles or so should I run dry. Not a practical solution, just a safety net so to speak.

I owned and used a Tour Tank on the Vmax. I used to do alot of riding in Northern Ontario where gas stations were further apart than the Vmax fuel range.

The tour tank is a well made unit, but the aftermarket luggage rack needs to be strengthened. I actually had one made to handle the 2 gal tank.

Mike, did you have ay problems with switching over from the main tank to the Tour Tank or fuel flow issues when cornering?
I appreciate the responses here, as I'm very interested in this as a much cheaper, less invasive approach to increasing the bikes range.

I set up the Tour Tank with a On/Off petcock that dumped into the main tank when needed.

Nice thing with this set is, when you don't need it, it all comes off in a few minutes.
