I'm looking at taking the stock Yamaha engine guards off and changing them for a set of Cycle One Off's frame sliders/engine guards.

Questions I have for anybody that has them, first how long are they? and two, can they comfortably be used for foot rests while highway cruising?

Any info is appreciated.

Mike

I have the following from COO #V017 and for me they are too short to comfortably use as foot rests - foot feels like it's slipping off.

I would think that 2-2 1/2" more would do it. My riding boots have smooth soles and the ends of the sliders are smooth so that may factor into the feeling like their slipping. Maybe some of Tom's slotted would work better or maybe he could whip up some serrated for ya? Or maybe some clamp-on footpegs like these?
I don't like having my feet out in front of me, only to stretch for a min or two. I can do 500+ miles using the normal pegs and by hooking my heels on the back pegs. I don't keep my feet on the back pegs for too long either, normally just to stretch out my quads.

I've got some COO sliders. There is no way to rest the arch of your foot on them, they are too short. What I do is kick up my feet and put my heels on them and the back of my feet rest on the engine cases. Works well for just cruising but not if you're going fast or riding agressive. Not good for a long 80+mph jaunt down the highway. But good enough to stretch out and get a change of leg position if cruising.

Any longer and they will probably hit the ground in a good turn. Then you'll find yourself on your ass.

I saw someone's bike with a big washer on the outside of the slider. I couldn't figure out why it was there and when I saw the owner, he said it was just big enough that his riding boot/shoe got enough bite that his feet did not slip off the short slippery sliders. Wish I took a picture but just imagine a washer bigger than the slider on the outside of the slider.

Uh huh... I had him make me a pair of custom shorter ones. I think they're an inch shorter than standard. I put my feet on them. I'm 6ft tall. Good for a change but not for miles and miles of riding. I hate my feet out in front anyway so no big deal for me.

+1 on this, that is what I do to get my legs stretched out on the open road, but like Mike said not secure enough to do any aggressive riding.

Thanks guys for the info.

The main reason for me to change position on longer rides is eliviate pain in my lower back. I will leave me legs/feet on the forward pegs for up to an hour at a time. I switch back and forth continuously to try to reduce the pain.

I would love to have a set of mid controls as I think that may be the best position for me. Might look at building a set this winter to see if that would work for me.

+1 here too. No sense having a longer slider to rest your foot on if it could possibly put you on the pavement. Maybe Sean has some Kuryakyn clamp-on or maybe the combination of these might look better than the other clamp-on pegs I found.

Here are some from Over Racing, but I've heard they are hard to get and expensive. But maybe they can give additional ideas on design.
