Hi guys I've got an 89 vboosted and it's had a had a hard life.
I've just done a compression test and i'm down on one cyclinder others are reading 160 psi and 120 so i think it time for a valve grind.
my question is do you have to remove the motor in order to get to the valve seats.

Are you performing a leak down test or just a compression test?
In order to reseat / grind valves you have to remove both heads.
Yes you need to remove the engine to do a valve job.
Have you adjusted your valves.. you may just have a tight valve on that one cylinder.. Is it smoking? If so When? First Start up, Under Hard Accleration, Letting off the gas?

Agreed, it may just need a valve adjustment. The rings wear out before the heads do normally.

HI Guys, just a compression test. at first I noticed a small amount of smoke soot around the end of the left pipe after riding 2000km around the southland nz, the low compression is from the number two cyclinder which i seem to think is on the left of the front bank Am i right???. And is this the reason why my boost isn't coming on hard at 6k rpm only noticeable after 7400 rpm.
If I do have to remove both heads which i really don't want to do.
Is it possible to drop a 100hp Vmax motor which has a compression of around 11.5:1 and connect it to the Vboost as for memory the vboost motor is around 10.?:1 I have one of these on tap if I need it..

Ok you said a few things that dont make sense to me....
1) "Is it possible to drop a 100hp Vmax motor" I dont know of any 100HP VMAX engines, most are 145-155 HP engines.

2)"which has a compression of around 11.5:1 and connect it to the Vboost as for memory"

This you really lost me on...... I dont know of any factory VMAX engines being that high in compression. Memory in your V-Boost?? Hmmm

Ok maybe someone else here can understand in what the hell your trying to ask..

I would reccomend you asking questions in a simple form rather then trying to get technical about something which is obvious you dont have a clue about. :ummm:
Going to take an asprin now

i think the 100 hp engine is the ones for some european countries who have a no engine over 100 HP rule.. (france may be one for example, i bet NG knows)

First off, you did a dry compression test, now add a tablespoon of oil in that low cylinder through the sparkplug hole and redo the test (with throtte open) and see what the reading is - if higher, bad rings, if the same bad valve. If valves are suspect, then next would be to check valve clearances/adjustment to see if it's a tight valve or a bad valve seat.

As for the 100hp engine, it will work for ya - by adding all your vboost system to the engine and pretty much give you near 145hp - it's all bolt on and plug & play.

Good Luck

Mike

Yea europe got 100HP Vmaxes for many years - basically they were the same but without the Vboost, losing 45HP in the process.

It was all about some BS agreement between european countries and (mostly jap) manufacturers to not sell ANY bike with more then 100HP.

WAAAAAAAAANKERS!!!! :bang head::bang head::bang head::bang head::bang head:

Yeah our v-maxes are castrated to 100HP :bang head:
That's why i bought my max in USA :biglaugh:

Also jap model but just need to install DJ7 or storck mainfolds with v-boost.
Also the outlet from stock exhaust is smaler and need to be drilled.

Limiting the motorcycles max HP, mostly encounters in Germany and France, almost evry kind of bike is castrated.
Why? Dont ask me...
