I recently became a Vmax owner when I picked up a sweet 98. The po took the stacks off, and put on uni filters. He claims there was a 10 hp loss in doing so, so I'm interested in running the stacks, but don't want to run them on the street without any type of filter. Anyone run the stacks with some protection? Thanks in advance.

Not a lot of choices out there. You could modify the stacks and try and put a filter on them but they would look kind of gay and really stick out there. We had to do some modifications on the current build project since the Vgas stacks were interfering with the legs and rear sets.

I'm looking to put a filter inside the stack. I agree, it would look stipid on the stack. I like the look of the forward facing stacks. Pretty cool!

i have a '96 with Vgas and it had short anodized stacks and k&n filters, but they were in my way at the knees so i put on the stacks the previous owner gave me and i too am still looking for a screen of some sort, below are several links that i found but i havent pulled the trigger on anything yet.

1) this looks like what i want but i cant get them to answer the phone

2)www.wimmermachine.com/_html/13/#stackfilters

3)www.dragspecialties.com/fatbook/13/509/3885389 this link has changed, you will have to look for velocity stack filters on their site

4)http://www.wpsracing.com/vestscwibo.html says weber stack filters sold in pairs, but doesnt show a picture???

last post in this thread was 2009, anybody had any luck
sean has sent me another link, i am running it down as well.

thanks

I would think that a filter that actually works and still fit inside the stack would create too much restriction in the intake.

What about those forward facing stacks without the bell and some cone shaped K&N's mounted on them?

I think the stacks look cool as heck, but every time I ride my buddies Vgas bike I knock 'em completely off with my 'effin Baboon legs.

Ok im going to give you some advice put the stacks on dont worry about air filters Unless you are riding ALOT or on DUSTY roads. Marcus has a 02 vmax with 60k on it and has had flatsides on since day one and no Issues at all, now you MUST change oil every 2500 mile. I was also worried about this i just had PCW racing inc build me a 1500 motor and John also says dont worry about the filters unless you are putting on a pile of miles,Pcw also sale the velocity stacks. I also run Vgas with pretty long stacks and I've never had any issues. But like was said I change my oil every 2000 miles but you can run them with the bonnets on that UFO sells but Jon says you lose about 2 HP with them on. Not that that would even be noticeable but I keep the bonnets with me anytime I'm on the bike. I basically put them on when it's parked other than at shows. And they say they shed rain as well but my bike has never seen rain. I would think metal screens would possibly restrict airflow but I'm not a carb expert. The only issue I've had was once I guess a small piece of dirt did get in and started gas coming out the overflow tube but I just put a straw to it and blew it out. No problems since. Ed
