Ok, I just noticed the left hand panel is missing the Vmax logo. I'm guessing these are plastic stick on so I have 4 options:
1. ignore the fact it is missing
2. remove it from the right hand panel so both panels are the same
3. locate the plastic logo and stick on to left hand panel
4. none of the above

Being slightly OCD, option 3, is the one I am looking at but what are these things called and where can you get them? I see on ebay there are panels with the logo so potentially I could buy one and if I've guessed correctly they are stuck on, I could remove it and apply to RH.

That's interesting. The only change in the emblem I was aware of is that on the 20th anniversary edition, I believe the chrome emblem has red sides. On the rest they are silver.

Can anyone out there chime in on the color of theirs?

I believe it is 1998 bike

O6 and 07 have the same with the red on the sides to go with the red flames on the tank. Other than that, that's the only differences I'm aware of.

Part number for the left side emblem on 1985-2004 vmax
I'm pretty sure you'll have to come up with your own adhesive to stick this on the cover.

thanks for part number - can't find any for sale this side of the pond so the best option is to buy complete s/h panel - is the emblem metal so can be polished up or chromed plastic? and how do you take it off?

If you get new it will come with the 3M body molding tape already ready to go. If you get used you'll have to do your own prep. I have new 05-07's on hand and I have looked at both part numbers and will be damned if i can tell a difference. I have used ones on hand too.

I realise this is not a commercial forum but we do face challenges in getting parts for old bikes in South Africa so I appreciate the response. Apart from probably a host of things (yet to be discovered) in the future there are some items I need right now. From another post of mine where I broke down; I need a rectifier/regulator. Mine gave up the ghost and shorted Pos. Straight to earth, hence the breakdown. The VMAX side logos would be great too( my bike is an ‘89 but probably the same as you have) I don’t care if they are used or new as long as the condition is good.
Would you be able to assist with these via a DHL/Fedex etc. to Johannesburg? Can i post my email here so we can take the commercial part off the forum or is that ok?
Thanks John

Was there a vmax emblem that was gold coloured?

Not a gold one from the factory. Only chrome and the black with red ones. The B & R ones are harder to find.

LOL. the 85's were the only stamped years. I do have a few spares that I use for chroming but have a few extra's I could sell.

Managed to source a s/h emblem in decent condition and fitted using 2-part epoxy. It is a bit closer to the edge than I would like but is positioned so as to cover the worst of the scratches on the panel. Unless you see both next to each other, no one will ever know. Anyways, I'm happy with it.:)
