I am living in Dubai.
I have a kind of old Vmax '93 model and I love the bike. I paid about 4500 dollars for it about 2 years ago and it has been faithful and fun since then and I have added another 6000 miles to the clock.

I have been thinking of getting a new bike, though I don't really want to sell this one just thinking.

The new Vmax, I see on the Yamaha-motor site has a MRRP of of 11,500 dollars approximately. This is about the same MRRP as the R1 the MT-01 is also similarly priced on the website I think

But here in Dubai, the Vmax retails for about 9500 dollars and the R1 retails for about 12500 and the MT-01 is about 13500. So go figure.

To me that is outstanding value. Does this represent a mistake on their website, I mean are Vmaxs selling at this kind of price everywhere or are we just getting a super deal here in Dubai? :eusa_dance:

Actually, I'll admit, I tested the R1 to see if i could get into the sport bike thing. But there is just nothing like having torque to roll on and rumble from 2000 rpm... So I have been thinking of a Buell as another, 'fun' bike. You know, just for something different. Because as much as I love the Vmax, it is kind of scary when I get into cornering at any speed. It is excellent for blowing folks off at the lights and cruising around town and puts a huge smile on my face everytime I ride it but I was thinking of something with a little more agility. So I want to keep the Vmax for that but I am looking for something torquey and agile..

The R1 left me a bit cold, I am just not an 8,000 rpm kind of guy. So back to the Buell, I loved riding it, but I don't think the quality and reliability is going to match the Yamaha. But then there is the MT-01. Anybody tried them? Would it make a good 'other' bike to the Vmax?

Since you already have a trusty VMax and lust for torque, I'd probably try and hang on at least one more model year for the 'new' Max. If you don't, you may well be kicking yourself squarely in the rear next year if/when it's released.

I just bought a 2007 Max for 9649 here in Northwest Ohio. That was out the door, with no additional shipping, setup, or any of the usual crap. Tax and title were extra. That makes 9500 believeable--but very good. So what it comes down to is do you want the final year of the original, or the first year, assuming 2008 is the release year for the "new" Max.

Good question. It all depends if you want to buy older technology with it's 21 year problems (like carbs) or take a chance on a new generation that might have it's own particular problems. One thing for sure, the new bike will tear ***, way beyond what we are driving now. Not everybody is a power freak like some of us and the old will do for them. Even now there are practically unused Maxes out there that are several years old because their owners are scared of it's brutal power right from the getgo. Sure the new Max will cost more because it's a bike that not many want. Setting up a production line and making parts becomes cheaper per unit as the quantity increases. Reason for the crotch rockets being cheaper. For every Max they sell, 1000 liter bikes probably will be sold. Either way, you still have a one-of-a-kind ride that others will talk about and respect.
