I saw a pair of wheels/tires for my FLSTN (yes, a H-D, horrors!) on CL so I made an appointment to see them. The guy was in deep south Miami-Dade Co. FL where the nurseries are (one of the biggest horticultural areas in the state).

When I got there, he opened up the garage & showed me the wheels/tires, all in good shape, Dunlop Elite 3's f & r. I saw him walking a bit stiffly & slowly, and asked him, "what's up?"

He said, "about a dozen of us went to NC from south FL to ride the mountains. We were having a great time until a drunk 36 y.o. female who was texting plowed into us and killed my friend who was riding next to me. I got a fractured pelvis and several fractured vertebrae. I'm doing pretty-good now, but I have a long screw in my pelvis holding it together. My bike was totaled ('93 H-D Fatboy, he was the 2nd owner. I saw a pic, very clean red/orange & creme paint, lotta chrome) and I really don't have much desire to ride right now. I will again, but I'm taking a break to heal."

I ended up buying the wheels, my bike has spokes, and I thought w/a replacement set of tins (bought) in a different color and different wheels, I could change my bike's looks to keep things interesting.

It's always the one you don't see until it's too-late, ride like everyone is out to get you, and shame on you if you don't wear AGATT. :confused2:

After going to my 24 year old next door neighbors funeral today I am not happy ounce again. I wish more car and bike riders would pay better attention

i wish those cagers out there would get off their damn phones, put those cheesburgers down and DRIVE. everyday here in Guam wether i am on my max or in my 2011 ram 4X4, i have to swerve to miss being side swiped or run over. IMHO all the damn safety things are allowing people to stop paying attention because they think the airbag, crumple zones or whatever will save them. they never mention the folks that are out there dealing with their *********

I was on 2 day road trip riding through VA State, On my way back home ran into some other riders. The guy in front had HD bike very loud bike mind you.

A SUV came over in his lane touch his bike, the guy on the bike hit his brake real hard. Lost his right shoe we all just about ran over his shoe. The SUV kelp going A few other the bikes caught up to the SUV had him pull over they call the police. The guy foot had slip off the brake peg. He had some road rash on his foot. The guy on the HD was ok. I stayed for about 30mins until the police came then had to keep moving. I of the biker's call last night told me SUV drive was on the cell phone, They receive $2000.00 tickets.

The group of ride did not act nasty to the SUV driver, also if we did not have the space between each rider like we did. We could have hit each other.

Some group riders don't leave enough space when riding together.

Which is why I generally avoid large group rides, especially if I don't know the people.
And the "side by sides".....why is this even legal? Is the purpose to provide two headlights(look like a car?), or just fill up the whole lane?
Or to just look cool:ummm:

Side by side, in the lower 48 states at least, is limited to a few MC's. Most ride staggered for safety.

A buddy and myself were riding here locally , and for a couple 15-30 seconds we rode side by side in the same lane on a 4 lane road with a median. A local deputy from the other direction did a u-turn and pulled us over. After the usual license & insurance check he told us it was illegal to ride side by side and was going to write us up. After about 15 minutes his boss showed up and after checking us out told us to have a good day and ride safe. No apology or explanation for the long delay . Still don't know if it is illegal or just a reason to pull bikes over and check 'em out.

He thought you were meth-heads on a distribution run.:confused2:

Rollie, sounds like the cop pulled you over and later his boss came to prevent an unlawful ticket. most times they will just let you go without telling you they were wrong. my brother, a 20yr sherrifs deputy in Florida says they are trained that way to prevent costly lawsuits that everyone seems to want to jump to even when an honest mistake is made.

Yeah , well , we were a little pissed , but when they let you go , I count it as getting away with something for all the crap we used to do and didn't get caught for. :rofl_200:

So bummed to hear that story..............

No level of awareness or training can guard against this......My biggest worry for me and my wife........and all of us!!

Absolutely! And worse yet, now we have Side/Rear object detection, lane departure warnings, and Blind Zone alert systems so now people think there's no reason to do a simple head check! If you think it was bad before...just wait, it's going to get worse. Safety equipment saves lives...safety features just give people the opportunity to shut their brain off.

"I am innocent! My proximity warning didn't tell me there were motorcyclists next to me when I turned right from the center lane and killed three of them!" :confused2::damn angry:
