What should have power in the following situations (and what I'm getting)

OK. on the '86 the blue/white wire out of the back of the starter solenoid has power at all times. This seems strange to me, but may be somehow correct as the battery is not draining.

Key on: idiot lights, turn signals, NOT headlight but it may be messed up on its own.

Add Kill switch= Blown ignition fuse.

So, I'm wondering which component paths are added when the kill switch gets flipped? Is it just the V-boost and fuel pump circuits or is there another area I need to look at. I'm fairly certain that the kill switch is not the source of the short, as it's quite clean inside, as is the ignition.

The blue/white to starter relay will always have power. Headlight should, check that the starter button is all the way out.

The engine kill switch is ignition fuse relates including vboost, fuel pump, coils, ignitor.

So how do I test those circuits with a blown fuse? I'm assuming the ignitor is the TCI (or whatever it's called on the early models) box. I hope I don't have to get another one of those. They're too pricey. I'll see if I can get the headlight working first. It's one of those alien-looking aftermarket ones and the PO did some creative wiring to make it work.

Would a stuck starter button blow a fuse by itself? I don't get the feeling that those circuits are really drawing enough power to blow a 15A fuse.

What I would do is disconnect everything on that circuit. Fuel pump relay, vboost, ignitor/tci, sidestand relay (near front coils), pressure sensor and diode assembly (sits near TCI). If it still blows, then it could be the fuse box. If not, then start plugging stuff back in until the fuse blows again.

Cool. I'll fiddle with it over the next couple days.

OK. Fuel pump relay works. At least it powered my Mr. Gasket pump. Still no spinning or anything when I thumb the started after V-boost and Fuel pump cycle. I'll see if I can jumper the starter tomorrow. Patmax is gonna get back to me about a 4-brush one anyway. Could this be a pickup coil issue as well? Nothing's spinning, so I'm not even far enough through the chain to be investigating that yet.

OK. If I short the two terminals on the starter solenoid should I get a spark from there? I just did it, and it sort of cranked a half second, but I'd really like to not explode something in my garage.

It does not click when I hit the start button. maybe there's something dead between the button and the solenoid? I'm also going to go ahead and rip off the stator cover as it's on there with Yamabond, and i wonder if it's been binding up and screwing things up more than this guy though. There's a ton of it in there and around the clutch slave area. Looks like somebody tried to control an oil weep.

Did it again and it's like the starter is just spinning freely... That can't be good. Is there a gear back in there that could shear off without the starter clutch bolts backing out? I'm thinking of this based on what Sean said about needing the gasket and not just using permatex to refit the stator cover. It could be that this guy slapped the thing back on with yamabond and it eventually caused enough resistance to strip something and maybe fry the starter relay. I would guess that the relay is unrelated, though.

You are basically bypassing the starter relay which is fine. If the button isn't working then it could be either the starter relay or starting circuit cutoff relay, side stand switch, diode assembly or neutral switch.
