Today I paid for it and rode it home. :rofl_200:

The deal was struck a couple weeks ago but I was with a working around the clock and could not break away. What a fine steed she will make with a few small tweaks. ***** got a real tude to, no doubt about that.

99, Kerker, Jetted, K&N, Corbin, Cooling mods, only 14k miles for $3000, I guess there are worse ways to drop 3 grand.

Very Nice !!!

Filled it up after draining the tank... of course, that drainage was due to some high RPM operation

I just mounted the back wheel with the new Michelin Commander II on it. It is the 170/80/15 and fits fine without the washer swap. Love the look of the slightly wider tire and feels nice too, just took a 25 mile ride to check it out before any big ride since it's the first time I've done it myself I wanted to make sure it isn't going to fall off or something terrible. 2 thumbs up!

If you liked the way it felt w/a new tire in essentially the stock size, beg a ride on someone's VMax wearing radials. You will be drinking water instead of beer to save to make the conversion. All you need is a modded rear wheel and two tires. Steering precision happens, that 'wandering' feeling at triple-digit speeds is gone (or nearly gone, depending on other variables, like handlebar size, any windshield, and other running gear such as steering head bearings, wheel bearings, fork condition), and cornering is great compared to stock. You can choose a line and hold it, and even change it without the drama of bias-ply tires, especially worn ones.

The 17" size will give you more acceleration as it's shorter than the stock tire height, effectively shortening your rear drive ratio (a higher number numerically) while the 18" size will preserve your top end abilities, but why do you ride a VMax? For its top end? No, I didn't think so.

I've said it before, and I will again, for the $, there is nothing you can do by way of alterations that can so-profoundly affect the ride of your VMax.

Thanks for the advice, I'll consider that after a couple of other things that have been waiting to be done. Unfortunately, vanity comes into play a bit and a couple of things that are more visible have taken a slight priority mainly because they are also effective as well. The new Morley Muscle seat that is on it's way, I hope? and a frame brace from exactrep.

P.S. You will hear and see that people refer to Sean, a lot. They are talking about Sean Morley at Morleys Muscle, just so you know. It took me a bit to figure out who this was.

Pulled the drive shaft and greased the splines. I read on FJR forum that they were bad about lack of lube, and sure enough my FJR shaft was dry. I replaced the rear brake pads on the Vmax, so I thought I should check the shaft splines. I figured it was basically the same drive system. Turned out to be a real ***** of a job. I did not expect the ujoint to flop down like it did and I ended up holding it up from the front after moving the rubber boot out of the way. I had to bend a special support rod to hold the u joint up while I aligned the shaft. I test rode it later and all seems fine. The brake job (rear only so far) was what I was originally doing but got caught up in a bigger job than I planned. btw, the grease on the splines was not that bad, not like my FJR. anyway looks like the u joint would be hard to replace, quickly anyway

Experience on the driveshaft install. You don't need to hold it up like that though if that's what it takes for you so be it. Another alternative some like to do is unhook the shocks and let the arm hang down. This gets closer to the ujoint angle

More messing with the '86

I pulled the exhaust, used up a whole can of aircraft remover, put my stock '01 pipes on with the '86 rear section. Kim helped me get the cans back on (yes, she's that awesome). I also found out that I have a leaking plunger in my brake master. So much for blowing the junk out of the carbs with a quick ride tomorrow. I'll probably be doing the shotgun and peashooter, though. It just doesn't want to idle right. It sounds a lot better. It's possible that the strange noise from before was an exhaust problem. Anyway.

It'll be posted in the for sale section as soon as I can get out into the neighborhood with some reliable front brakes.

If anyone is interested, I'll take $1k from anyone on the board (or a referral). It'll be on CL for $1500.

I don't know if I should say Thank you or eff you to Buster Hymen, but here we go...got my scoops stripped; let the sanding begin!

Just take your time and they will look amazing when you're done.
I did mine years ago and it was well worth the effort.
