What is this in my brake reservoir?

I was draining my front brake reservoir and found this thin piece of metal that fit across the reservoir lengthwise(see pix). What is it's purpose?

Keeps the gasket from blocking the hole?

A fluid deflector to prevent spraying out when releasing the lever. The earlier reservoirs had them. Not sure why they quit installing them.

Po of my bike must have replaced my brake reservoir cause it looked old n has that baffle also

I thought that might be what it was for. Mine is a '99. Just put on my SS front line. Gotta be careful not to lock it up now!
