I cant get my hands on any yamabond or threebond.. is there a permatex product that words well for the top end cover (valve cover?)

I read in another forum that permatex's THE RIGHT STUFF worked pretty well.

any suggestions?

I use Permatex Blue for the top. Just a light smear is good enough. Let set for 15-20 minutes before installing cover.

DONT USE ANY SILICONE!!!!!!!! Silicone can fall into the engine which in results clogging small oil passages, clogging the screen on the oil pick-up. The only type of silicone I use is the copper and that is ONLY placed on the exhaust donut gaskets and the kerker slip on can.

Permatex makes a gasket sealant called HIGH TAC which is a spray. Spray the new valve covers gaskets, let it sit for about 5 mins and place it on your valve cover.
You can also use this sealant from 3M I cant think of the name, the slang name for it was Monkey Snot.

Good point. I don't use enough to cause
problems. I just carefully smear the surface of the cover enough so that the gasket sticks. I use it ONLY to keep the gasket on the cover. I don't use the spray anymore because it was pretty messy.

P.S.....it's been awhile Lankee, you dissappeared from the Yahoo lists a few years ago. Good to see ya.

Thanks Mark
You are correct I took a break from the board and I came across this site the other night. I am impressed with the layout and how its organized.
You are correct the Permatex High Tack spray is messy. I was going to add the red sticky finger part but didnt LOL:worthy: Silicone sealants in my opinion are the worst thing when it comes to engines cars/motorcycles. If done careful I agree it wont get in the engine. I just completed putting together a new engine for this year. I just used a coat hanger and sprayed the valve cover gaskets. I used to use sealants / yamabond but after disassemblin engines and seeing this stuff inside made me cringe. Good to see ya Mark.:thumbs up:
