Hey All,

I have a 93, I'm replacing the instrument cluster with a new Acewell unit. On the diagram, it looks like I'm supposed to wire some of the connections to the negative side of the of the switch (the oil level for example). It looks like I have to run a wire from the ground side of these switches back up to the instrument cluster as the ground doesn't appear to run up to the existing cluster. Does any one have experience with this kind of thing?

When you get that puppy wired up and working , please do a write up . Many ? s have been asked about that instrument you are working on. I don't think there is a complete thread on the final install / hook-up / operation.

i've already attached the unit to the bike, i think i have pics from that, i'll document everything i do to get it working and post it to the forum.

I believe that's how they are wired. They tie into the ground when they switch "on" on some of those units. There is ground wires up in the cluster area already that you can tie into to complete the circuit if needed.

Hey Sean,

lets use the oil level circuit for example, according to the wiring diagram for the indicator light on the existing cluster, I don't see a ground to the light in the cluster. So I was thinking that I had to run a wire back to the ground side of the switch. Are you saying that I can connect to the ground wire at the instrument cluster or a direct connect to the frame with the speedo's negative wires? in the case of the oil level light the speedo only has one wire, a negative. Thanks for the feedback.

I haven't dealt with this but the way I believe it works is this. You have two wires to the indicator now. One is +12, one is nothing unless the switch is closed. Once the switch is closed (in this case the oil level switch in the pan) it creates a path to ground and completes the circuit and allow the bulb to illuminate.

could be wrong as usual though.

Thanks for all the ideas. It sounds like I should be able to connect to the neutral wire and when the switch closes it will become the ground. Does this sound correct?
