year of motor.

Does anybody know how to tell the year of the motor in your bike.I just got a max and dont think its the original motor.

I'm sure someone can help if they have pics of your motor. I thought motor might have replaced on my '98. Turns out it was yanked for tranny work.

I Don't have the cross-reference chart that give the motor year. But I do know if the motor is the original one built with your bike the last four numbers stamped on the block (lower LH side over the middle gear housing) will match the last four numbers of the vin stamped on your frame.

This is true except I have seen a few exceptions on the later models (last years of the gen 1's).

Well this is my first Vmax and im not that knowledgable on the diffrences in the years but mine it a 2000 but after looking it over i see the oil filter is not the car style its the cartrage style.they started the car screw on style in 96.My motor # is 2we-036418 if anybody has any ideas.The last 4 of the vin does not match the last 4 of the motor.

Thanks for the info.I dont know how i should feel.The bike has tons of power and runs great,but just knowing its not the original motor kinda bothers me.The bikes in the garage are bikes i will never part with i really enjoy them.The red one is a 86 honda magna.The girlfriend rides that one.The other is a 83 suzuki gs850.It was a nice bike when i got it but i wanted to make it something diffrent.Here is a couple pics.
